Hello!

I just visited Europe's largest movie store
and briefly chatted with its owner. I asked him
whether he has a 4K UHD player at home. He said
he did not.

Then I asked whether you can spot the difference
between Full HD and 4K movie on a 55" TV screen.

He answered that when watching a blu ray movie,
he has never had the feeling that "Oh, I wish
this was in 4K". To conclude, he added that blu
ray picture quality is "perfect" to him.

What this means is that 4K is largely a scam
to sell more media to movie fans. Yes, there are
more pixels there to see, but the human eye and
human vision are what they are.

Blu ray is close enough to perfection so it makes
no sense to invest in a 4K player or 4K movies.

KK

As much as anything, it strikes me as a reason to sell more electronics.
4k/8k makes sense when you have a screen the size of a typical movie
screen, but under that you're not really going to see the benefit.
However, it's hard to keep selling the same TV over and over, so
companies keep upping the specs in hopes of convincing customers that
they're falling behind.

Personally, I think Blu-Ray is about as good as I'll ever need. Hell,
I'll settle for a DVD most of the time. If I had a screen big enough to
warrant a resolution in the multiple thousands of line scans I'd be rich
enough to just rent out a cinema.

I agree. I do, however, need to invest in a Blu-Ray player again. I left
my old one in my home country and I'm sorely missing it.
