After doing my thing in the men's room in an art department of a large
university, I turned and reached for the paper. Someone had drawn a
peculiar arrow pointing to the roll hanging on the wall. Above it was
inscribed a penciled note which read, "ART DEGREE, TAKE ONE."

So what's really so funny about that you might ask? It certainly
seemed to me to be good for a laugh because it pretty well summarizes
a particular attitude toward Modern Art and education. Like much other
graffiti, it says something which remains for the most part publicly
unspoken.

This roll of toilet paper could be construed to have a double meaning.
On one hand it can simply be considered as just another mundane
everyday object but together with a bit of well-written conceptual art
commentary it becomes a genuine artistic artifact, a work of art.
Whatever it meant it did a lot to remind me of my assorted adventures
in art schools. In a way it summarized my feelings and inspired my
painting of the same name.

I find it funny - but I can laugh at myself.

Mani you do raise a point there is a negative attitude towards modern art.
Psychologists will tell you that perception is reality and that you should
not deny a person's honest perception.

Even though you make a good point worthy of discusson your past history is
to deny everyone else's perception in an attempt to make your own superior -
even to the point of setting little traps like this one - where you sound
reasonable. I know it is difficult for you to depersonalize but you should
work at it.

I think your toilet paper painting is a fun painting. The problem is that
you surround it with so much of your anger that you take the fun out of it.

Your problem is that you think humor is anger when the parody is aimed
at you. It also makes you realize that your literary abilities are
rather constipated.

Check out my book you'll find it full of humor at your expense.

You really need to get out more. Every college department has their
own version of the toilet paper/degree gag in their bathrooms. It's
about as original as your anti-Modern art rants and Dali rips.

The connection should be obvious to all twits like you. But doesn't
this important statement also prove in your cockeyed logic that I'm
also bitter neurotic failure and Hitler sympathizer because I was
expelled from a famous Bauhaus academy?

Please try to repeat your whole mantra lest artzy fartzies here miss
these important points.

from the ARTZY FARTZY MANIFESTO

We know what art is.

Anyone who dares say negative things or even laughs about the founders
of Modern Academic Art, Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, or AE and any
artist who produced rectangles, etc. doesn't know anything about art
history and is definitely a neurotic bitter philistine.

(perhaps I should add anti-women)

Many who openly express a dislike for Modern Academic Art are Nazi and
Hitler sympathizers.
