Does anyone know from firsthand experience how to prepare rice paper for
watercolor by stretching and them how to mount the finished work? I would
like to do long format pieces 18 x 36 (or longer) using this paper but
don't have any idea on how to proceed. I've worked with this paper and
like the effects but don't know how to best use the material. How should
it be framed?

You don't say how heavy the rice paper is, but most are pretty thin and
fragile when wet. I've never heard of stretching it, but it might be
possible with the heavier ones. I think Frederick Wong describes how to
mount a rice paper watercolor for framing in "Oriental Watercolor
Techniques." I use a different method. I laminate the rice paper to
illustration board using acrylic matte medium, then I paint on it. The
surface is fun to work on and does some interesting things with the paint.
It doesn't have to be smoothed out because the wrinkles add to the effect.
There are several more rice paper applications in my book, "Creative
Collage Techniques."
