I am interested in getting information about US system
of fine arts education and applied arts (e.g. computer arts)
education.
- What kinds of educational institutions for arts are there in USA?
- What is approximate number of such institutions?
- Which of them are the largest? Famous?
Thanks,
Tanya

You are asking a question that would take a book to answer. In fact,
it's such a big tpoic I don't know a book that covers it well.....
Perhaps a few short answers to start:
> - What kinds of educational institutions for arts are there in USA?
> - What is approximate number of such institutions?
Almost anything you can imagine......
- community schools by the thousands - offering art instruction of a
more avocational nature, probably not much in the way of computer work,
and probably not accredited or granting credits.
- two year (connunity or junior) colleges, of which there are about
1,100. Most will have some art and design program, some have computer
graphics, some provide decent education. Degree is an AAS, usually,
You can finish that school and go get a job (usualy a more entry level
position) or use the degree to transfer to a four-year college.
- Four year colleges, of which there are 2,200. About half these will
offer art and design programs. About a third of them will offer
"professional" or specialized degrees like the BFA, which is the common
degree for this area of study. Many will have computer programs, too.
Some will offer more general BA degrees, which can work well too. Some
of these colleges are small, more liberal arts oriented. Many are
larger public universities with a few thousand students. About 35 of
them are independent art colleges (see http://www.aicad.org).

You need to decide what you want in a college. Large, small, urban,
rural, etc. There is no "best" college. There are a number that will be
"great" for you. Start thinking about yourself and start looking. The
WWW has many methods of finding various colleges. Poke around.
