WETCANVAS! OFFERS NEW ONLINE ART WORKSHOP DATABASE SYSTEM
March 23, 1999 -- WetCanvas!, a major news and educational resource for
visual artists announces the availability of a new art workshop database
and retrieval system.
The system provides a robust search engine that enables web visitors to
perform very exacting searches for art workshop availability. "We
created the system to act as a central repository for the many excellent
art workshops that are available to artists", says Scott Burkett, the
site's Founder. "An artist can search for workshops by criteria such as
location, subject, medium, instructor, sponsor, and timeframe. It also
allows breakdown of workshops by difficulty level, so if a visitor wants
to see all of the beginner-level watercolor workshops for a particular
location, the system shows them. It can also handle very exacting
searches. For example, the system can help you locate an advanced
gouache painting workshop, that focuses on landscapes, lead by John
Doe, in the month of April, 2000, to be held in France. It's really
quite a useful tool."
The system also provides an online interface for workshop vendors and
instructors to submit new entries into the database. "The wonderful
thing about leveraging Internet technology is that we are truly reaching
out to a global community. There are really incredible art workshops
and classes offered around the globe. Some of those painting excursions
to far away places have been known to change lives. However, there
exists a natural gap between the workshop leaders and the artists. This
system was designed to bring this information together, and present it
to the potential participant in a manner that's digestable, and
selective."
The system is the first step in a number of new initiatives offered to
the global community of artists by WetCanvas!. Burkett adds that "the
goal at WetCanvas! is to further the marriage of technology and art, and
in particular, how we apply technology to the field of art education and
proliferation."
WetCanvas! aims at providing news and educational information to artists
of all major mediums, including oils, acrylics, and watercolors. The
site also offers free services to artists and vendors, including free
virtual gallery space to any and all artists, and free advertising
opportunities through its innovative content-exchange program. The site
also features a comprehensive product comparison guide, covering such
items as paints, videos, books, tools, and other items of interest to
the artist. Burkett adds that "we are putting many unknown artists in
touch with a much larger art community through the use integrated
message forums and chat tools. The site really is an incredible tool
for learning the ins and outs of creating fine art."
WetCanvas! also offers a number of services to members of the global art
community. Professional services such as web site hosting, design,
development, database integration, and e-commerce solutions are offered
to galleries, museums, artists, and members of art media. An online
media kit is available at wetcanvas.com for all interested parties.
