Hi, looking for someone to paint a portrait of my wife from photos I
will supply. I know this is short notice, but would like it for
Christmas. Would be very interested in perhaps commissioning a student
to paint this, but would need to see examples of similar work. we are
based in Yorkshire, so local artists very welcome.

Thanx

Why not take your images and produce prints on a nice substrate such as rag
or canvas? Can get then printed at local print shop.

Canvas will have to be stretched and lacquered. Do that at your local
framing shop or yourself if you have previous exp.

Make sense? Of course I understand if you really, really want an oil on
canvas, there's nothing wrong with that. This would be a possible
alternative that might even open up a new world for you.

I would recommend an artist on this ng who goes by the jane or DNA
something. She has a good realistic style.

Why don't you also tell him that a blow up doll is just as good as a real woman?

I haven't inferred anything of the kind. To use your analogy, I've offered a
"blow-up doll" only as a possible alternative and not as an equivalent. How
dare you insinuate that I wish to mislead people.

I would recommend Joel Rudnick. He is a very fine artist who works
fast (although xmas may still be too soon). Nevertheless the xmas gift
may be an IOU of a portrait. For samples of his work go to:

http://homepage.mac.com/emilianodelau/JoelRudnick/

Under "paintings" you can see samples of his portraits.

Since he is a friend, you may contact me about a commission. He does
not have e-mail.

Having looked at the link and the website, I'm going to ask you a
question about him purely out of curiosity, and this has no implication
to me on whether he's suitable for the OP or not; I get the impression
from looking at his work that he is self-taught painter, and not
formally taught one. Am I correct?

Argh. I omitted the use of "a" when I rephrased the question.
Nevermind, it's still comprehensible.
