Dear Artist friends.....

this is an excerpt from my post today to Mani DeLi's..."Art and skill"
you may wish to see that post in its entirety...

<snip>

I think of rec.arts.fine (as I'm sure I do of many others), and I
think, Mani DeLi....hhhhmmm, and I think.."angry bitter soul"

whatever happened to the spirit which art breeds of celebration, joy,
the freshness and thankfulness attached to life..etc????

There comes a time for forgiveness and compassion, and celebration in
lieu of the brevity of life!!! Art helps us enjoy life..., enjoy our
Creator...and being created, but life truly alive is not bitter!

I want after all these years of myself being embittered toward what I
thought of as "Abstract Crap!" to extend my apologies to you artists
that have found meaning through such art..as if that in itself would not
be valuable. Please accept my apologies and forgive me. Let us learn
to co-exist, and may I see and learn something new about life because of
your unique vision.

Do you blame him after a ten year depression in the arts?

We have people driving
around in American in 70,000 dollar cans of tin? Just think if every year these
people spent 70K on emerging art ? They might really have an investment
in stead of a wortless can of tin for a status symbol.

I'm here and real live professional international emerging
artist.

If you are a real professional artist - you really don't have time to
pose here...often.

It only takes one buffalo, on butterfly, one lemming to move a flock...I am
happy to enlist you to aid the cause...art is in bombs are out!

When are you buying one of my pieces Larry?... apologies are one
thing...support the arts means more than dreams of artists - it means
supporting those of us who are really working making art, running
studios, marketing, healing the neighborhoods and advocating for
the rest of the art world who have given up hope.

Thanks for the support

Your above long winded confession leads me to humbly suggest a means
of dispensation.

You should make pilgrimage to Texas and seek Twombley (a living
national monument) and beg his personal forgiveness as soon as
possible. I'm sure that because of his good nature induced by his vast
wealth he will immediately grant you forgiveness in the name of
abstraction. This should put you in a state of aesthetic grace and
happiness far above that which you now profess.

I'd still rather see the check of support...

God Mani, you are a doctor too!
Long live Cy Twombly.
You are just so jealous. Green with envy, you are.

I made a pilgrimage 20 years ago. It was to a cross, and I saw myself.
It was a horrible sight to behold.

I simply will attempt to find what good I can in each man and encourage
him/her at that point...as I have even Mani...

as for you...I hope you will find your check, and not become embittered
if it eludes you. There is more to life.....

no..I've only been living it for 20 years, live from painting to
painting....tried to raise a family and keep a marriage together. So
you'll have to clue me in I guess.

I too am a struggling flegling artist...if my attempts to bury a hatchet
are unappealing to you..walk by my booth like anyone else!

My son is in a community that feeds 300-400 homeless daily in Chicago. I
have been a youth pastor several times in the last 20 years, have
nurtured my share of broken hearts and dreams. I spend time in prisons
with inmates..and would like to see opportunity to work with inmates..I
know about no hope in the world, I know about people with broken dreams,
and the difference between one investing integrity. After 20 years I'm
simply willing to see that the person who paints differently than me is
a human being, and I want to applaud his/her efforts to survive having
made the effort with sacrifices of their own so long as it has been with
their sense of integrity to excel the best they know how. I have hated
long enough...and I am sorry for it.

My personal interests in western art modes and dedication of personal
development is not the most pinnacle and crucial transcendent ideal by
which to hold myself sovereign and mighty to castigate all others.

I prefer being with my kind, because I venture to gain and learn
something...but there is more to value in another human being than the
style he/she paints in, and I won't hold bread from that person and
leave them hungry because I don't like they way they apply paint.

That bread can come in many forms for hungry people, like even human
decency and respect......

do I think abstract art took something away from realism. Sure, I do.
But do I worship realism so much as to spend the remaining days of my
life in vindication and vehemency. No.....for I have more to lose here
with fellow men than a kindred art spirit.

How dare we paint beauty while our mouths spew venom......
How about a realistic painting done with integrity and excellence of an
artist painting an abstract!!!! Could that be done???

peace to us all.....

Larry
