Caran D'ache (expensive)
Derwent (inexpensive)
Lyra (in between the two)
I was wandering if there's enough quality difference between these to
make me want to pay double the price of Derwent for Caran D'ache.
What I have in mind is using them over an acrylic under-painting.
I know someone who uses Prismacolor over acrylic, but he has to spray
on a coat of matte medium first to get the required tooth. From my
experiments with borrowed watercolor pencils I suspect that won't
be necessary.
thanks much for any info,
andy.

BTW, i've also seen Conte de Paris watercolor pencils. I don't know how
expensive they are, I bought a whole bag of them, barely used, at a loft
sale. I don't even know if they make them any more, they are probably 10
years old. But they're better than any other watercolor pencils I've
used..
I've always liked Caran d'ache products, they always seem to lay down more
pigment than any other reasonably priced product. Why don't you just buy a
single CD and a Derwent pencil in a dark color like black and test them
out?
