I'm trying painting for the first time after watching the Jerry Yarnell series
on PBS. There are numerous art supply stores online. Are there any you would
recommend for good price, selection, and service? (I'll be trying acrylics.)
Thanks!
Tom
If you live in United Kingdom I suggest you buy from
http://www.artdiscount.co.uk/
Excellent quality for canvases and colors. Excellent prices, the lowest I
have been able to find so far, speaking of United Kingdom.
Free Delivery for orders over 45 pounds. Always fast.

Assuming you live in the USA (unless AOL also deals in other
countries) I'd say you need a few good and not too expensive brushes
to get a good start. You might want to check out Kolonok which is
pretty good : http://www.kolinskyartbrushes.com and far cheaper than
Isabey or W&N. Ofcourse Kolinsky brushes are best used if you paint
with diluted acrylics. If you use acrylics thick (straight out the
tube) then you better go for hog brushes.
I do (FL). In addition to source, can anyone recommend acrylic beginner kits
and brands?
Thanks again,
Tom
>Hi all,
I get most of my stuff from
http://www.italianartstore.com/store/
or
The former has good prices, but a limited selection, as it happens
they carry what I use.
The latter is not the absolute best prices, but the prices are quite
decent, the selection is good and they are probably the best for
customer service. If you can club together with someone and order
enough to get free shipping ( order of $200 or more) the prices are
even better.
I know a good many people shop from Jerry's Artarama, they have just
about the best overall prices and really a rather impressive
selection.
I do not care for them. When I have ordered from them I have _never_
recieved my complete order and had to spend time on the phone with
them to get them to refund my money for what they did not send. While
they have never been actually rude to me, there has been that
underlying sense of amazment in all transactions that I actually
expected _customer service_.

You can't go wrong with:
Beginner or professional, they are recommended.
They sell their own brand of art supplies and
a few other brands as well.
If you go to the Dick Blick site, click painting then click acrylics,
you will find a nice bit of information about the differences between
the various types of acrylic paint, includeing info on the difference
between student grade and artist's grade.
Most of the companies offer small sets in artist's grade colors. I
use Golden, so that is what I usually recomend. You may find you
prefer another brand. Most of the assorted paint manufacturers have
websites where they tell you a fair bit about their products, well
worth a look.
