I'm looking for a nice, big coffee table book of prints
covering as much of art history as possible. I want to
expose my kids to the great works of art. I've found
"art history" books that appear to be mostly text with
example prints, but I'm hoping to find a book that is
basically a collection of the great art through history
in picture form. Ideally, it would be great if it
covered various media - painting, sculpture, architecture,
etc.

Can anyone direct me to something like this or to a
series of books that would cover what I'm describing?

Thanks for any assistance.

Take a look out for "Art" edited by Robert Bolton with
forward by Christopher Rothko.
I found it in a pile of remaindered books.
ISBN 1 903 817 994

You will however need another since this has only paintings.
I found it very appealing and just what you may be looking
for.
Artists are alphabetically sorted.
A section at the front defines most movements in art.
Hardback, it is about 27cm wide and 29cm long and 4cm
thick

I went to Borders to actually look through the art section and found
a few books that were perfect:

"The Collins Big Book of Art"
"The Art Book"
"The Art Book for Children"

These cover a wide range of artists and art forms from prehistoric
to contemporary with lots of good prints and photos.
