Unless you have a strong interest in or expert knowledge of Japanese
painting (particularly zen ink painting) this won't be for you. I'm
just hoping to luck out and find an expert here...

I've come across two hanging scrolls that look extremely similar. One
(http://www.gitter-yelen.org/newsite/action.lasso?-db=CollectionWorks.fp3&-lay=simple&-format=artistdetail.htm&WorkID=102&-Max=1&-Find)
is Monks Coming And Going (obviously translated titles) by Kutsu
Deiryu, 1895-1954. The other
(http://www.gitter-yelen.org/newsite/action.lasso?-db=CollectionWorks.fp3&-lay=simple&-format=artistdetail.htm&WorkID=162&-Max=1&-Find)
is Monk Procession by Nakahara Nantembo, 1839-1925. When I saw the
latter, I was confused because I thought it was the same image - they
are that similar. Unlike, say, Hotei pointing at the Moon, this isn't
a subject I've seen repeatedly before - and even so, the treatment
here is almost identical. Can anyone tell me if this refers to
something, or is a common theme? Or explain the similarity here?
