The question is
---------------
DOES ANYBODY KNOWS RELIABLE SOURCE of information
(methods description & procedures)
HOW TO AGE OIL PAINTING on CANVAS?
---------------

We are not talking about aging painings on cheap vinil canvases (because
it's virtually impossible and absolutely meaningless). I mean classic
oil painting on classic linen canvas (Holland type).

It might be new & fresh painting (just-finished painting), which can
make
it easier to apply certain procedures in order to age both:
image itself (partial discolouration and craquelures) and canvas surfice
on the back
(or all through altogether).

Any references to books or other sources are highly appreciated!

Thank you!.
Edward.

Get hold of a copy of "The Art Forger's Handbook" by Eric Hebborn (ISBN

Overlook Pres, 1997. It should be a big help. (Hebborn was quite a
successful forger himself)

What kind of a price does that book command? Shall I check Amazon.com
or some other site for information on it? It sounds very interesting
to look at.

I think it's in the 35$ range (US, hardcover). It's being discontinued up
here - I saw it the other day in a discount bin and if it is still there
next time I go back I'll pick it up - so you might be able to find it
cheaper. I just checked Amazon - they are discontinuing it too, even
though it looks like a number of people want a copy..

Hi, Chris!
Thanks for posting in newsgroup.

The book seems to be interesting.
I have already checked all more-or-less decent on-line sources for used
books.
It is not listed anywhere as available.
There are bunch of other books by Hebborn, but not "Handbook"

However one thing embarassed me - it's known that he forgered all types
of graphics mostly. I have no idea about his skills & knowledge in
painting.
That's the main thing I am interested in particular.

The only way to get this book is to order it and wait, but I would like
to be sure it covers things I want to learn...

Do you know anything about Hebborn's expertise in painting?
you looked through the book - have you seen any signs of painting media
in there?

Thank you.
Edward.

Hi Edward;

I guess on that I can't help you, my memory of the book is relatively fuzzy.
I'm not sure where you are posting from - is there a university library near
you? There's also some other books recommended by readers on the Amazon.com
page for Hebborn's "Handbook", maybe some of those might also be of interest.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi Edward!
I own this book in a german edition. I'm no expert, so i can only tell you,
that pages
14-58 are about drawing and pages 74-151 about painting (Rest is about
Marketing).
And, in my view(as an non-expert), they both seems to be high qualitiy
contributions
to these subjects.

Greetings
Uli

Excuse me. I forgot to mention that the pictures of the book are in the painting
section. So both chapters have roughly the same size. Notwithstanding that its
worthwhile to look into it.
Greetings Uli
