For the life of me I cannot find the following information, even on
the B Museum website, the painters of the following paintings (all I
can is describe them since they are in memory):
1 - a tall painting of Jesus holding a bright candle, deep red
background
2 - the names of landscape painters from the Netherlands and
Belgium...
Any info would be appreciated and thank you,
Jack

No idea -- sorry.

Your "description" doesn't help much. For example, a (small) list of Dutch
landscape painters would include: Hobbema, Jan van Goyen, Jacob van
Ruisdael, Aelbert Cuyp, Jacob Maris, Esaias van de Velde, Rembrandt van
Rijn, Gillis van Coninxloo, Aert van der Neer, Vincent van Gogh.
Re: No.1
What style would you imagine this would be included in, or
what era?
I have in mind a "PreRaphaelite image, although I cannot recall
the painter. Is Jesus viewed framed inside an arched doorway
or other entrance?
Re: No.2
How far have you progressed by entering Belgium landscape
painter list, and Netherlands landscape painter list into Google?
Only 5 minutes and I had
these:-

http://www.abcgallery.com/list/2001sept01.html

There is a whole mountain of information on these subjects at your
fingertips
via Google.

Thanks for the help ! No, it isnt Light of the World..surely there is
someone who has been to the British Museum and recalls this piece. It
is a DEEP red background illuminated only by a very BRIGHT candle and
Jesus is (I think) kneeling down holding the candle or looking at
it...
Regards,
Jack
It sounds like a later Baroque piece. Try Georges Dela Tour or
Rambrandt, or Caravaggio

Thank you - I think you may have the right period but I searched all
the works on the above painters - none matched, but Dela Tour was
closest. The candle in the painting I speak of is very bright, the
center of the painting (focal point), has a deep rich red background
which darkens as the light fades. I believe Jesus is upfront looking
into the candlelight, with some figures in the near distance.....it is
a 'tall' oil painting as I recall. It doesnt show up in the British
Museum webpages and the people who work there are less than useful. I
guess I have to fly all the way back, what a pain..someone help!
