I just picked up a book edited by Grant Wood entitled _Modernism in
Dispute: Art Since the 40's_. It includes essays by Jonathan Harris. Has
anyone read this, and what are your opinions? I find it a fascinating
explanation for the rise of Abstract Expressionism in America.

This was used as a textbook for an "Art after 1945" class I took, and I
certainly liked it better than others of its type, since it considers
influences outside the pure stylistic evolution of art. Certainly, the
political explanation it advances needs to be considered in conjunction
with the more traditional theories, but on the whole, I thought it
was quite worthwhile. I am told that the other books in the Open University
series are good as well.
