Hello,
I惴 just learning the basics in oil painting but soon I should be
painting something. At least I hope to.
I can愒 seem to make up my mind about what i惴 going to paint.
What theme do u suggest for a first painting?
What愀 "easy"?
Thanks for the atention.
Hello Katia,
There are two approaches:
1. Set up a simple still life (one or two objects against an interesting
background should do). Ensure that you have a definite, unchanging light
source. And then open your eyes very wide. By looking and observing try to
understand *why* objects appear as they are. In other words, do not paint
what you *think* they ought to look like, but only what you can actually see.
2. Look into yourself. Do you find a strong emotion, memories of experiences?
Translate them into shapes, colour, shade and light.
For a beginner I would, personally, recommend the first approach. Afterall,
the *craft* of putting paint on canvas should come first and can only be learned
by frequent exercises and by learning to use your eyes.
And one last point: Do not approach your first paintings with the intention of
producing something fit to be framed and hung up. You will be much more relaxed
and loose if you tell yourself that you are *only* trying out something.
Happy painting!
