I am researching the Spanish painter Eduardo Zamacois (1841-1872).
If you own or know the location of any of his paintings (including in
museums),
I would sincerely appreciate your information, including any printed,
written,
drawn or painted material. This material will be used as biographical
background
in a catalog to be issued in conjunction with a retrospective
exhibition of the
artist's work at the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao, Spain in 2005.
Zamacois was a student of Meissoniere and a close friend of
Fortuny and
lived and painted in France for several years. Traditional in style,
his
paintings were often sly criticism of pompous contemporaries as well
as from the past. He was occasionally referred to as "The Cervantes of
Art".
I will probably go missing for a few days; I'm scheduled for an
angioplasty Friday, but I will try to answer all replies to this
query. Let me
know if you might be interested in having your painting in the
Exhibition.
