Mattison, you don't give an URL - do you have a website? If so, you
should include the URL in your signature whenever you write email or post
to newsgroups. If you don't have a website, perhaps you should consider
posting one, with a few samples of your work. Then make sure it is
registered everywhere - indexes like Yahoo, and all the search engines.

I've been looking for a listserv or newsgroup attended by collectors and
museum curators. Anyone know of such?

Thanks!

Mattison,
I recently put my guide to the visual arts in Seattle and Western Washington on
the web and am encouraging every single gallery owner I can to do a web page
despite the fact that I don't except them to make many sales as a result -- at
least not yet. I see our endeavors as an educational tool, nothing more. If
someone in New York is planning a trip to Seattle, they can look up our web
pages for suggestions of galleries and museums to visit while they are here.
We've also included links to hotels and restaurants, etc. Sometimes we all need
to do things for the community that don't necessarily result in monetary value
but do create good will. Also, I find it really fun to get emails from all over
the world from people who are curious about the art scene here. I just got mail
yesterday from a lady in Australia and a man in The Netherlands!

I saw some good Tamayo's for sale on the http://www.artcom.com page.

Your own site is very beautifull and intelligently setup.

Good luck.

I don't think that the net results in many sales of any kind at this
point... people just aren't used to shopping on it yet. Some of this
may be due to the fact that there is no widely used simple,
secure and standardized means of conducting financial transactions via a
net. Also, the web is so new, that it is still a curiousity to the
average person. Not the place to buy anything. I imagine that over
time we will see this change, especially as major players are working
towards overcoming these obstacles to net-commerce.

As for art specifically, I think that you lose the tangability on the
web of the physical artifact. It is harder to know what you are
actually purchasing (print/paper quality... matting/framing quality).
You also lose the sense of scale, and to some degree color (will this
fit/look good over the couch?). Will these problems be overcome? Not
likely.

btw... I have never had anyone express an interest in purchasing a print
on the net (though there has been interested in purchasing rights to
print). But sales shouldn't necessarily be the goal... for that stick to
the real world.

I have sold several but not by the means you would expect -

The general concensus seems to be the net is not the wonder tool for
sales everyone expected - so any more ideas?
