Rendering in Pencil, by Arthur Guptill is
not available on the B&N site but may be
elsewhere - try (www.amazon.com).
Both books are a bit dated in the images
presented as illustrations but the technique
explored in each book is never outdated.
Also the variety of pens and pencils
are myriad nowadays compared to those
available when these books were first
published.
BTW, do you have a recommendation for books for artists on anatomy. It's
time for me to "bone up" there (ha!), and thought I do have a few such
books, wonder if there are some better ones out there.

I've got quite a number of books about anatomy. One of the best is by
Louise Gordon "How to draw the human figure". Very helpfull about
hands is Burne Hogarth's "Drawing dynamic hands" (even points out
differences between male and female hands and those of different
ages). The human figure in action is also quite helpfull to watch and
I can recommend "The human figure in motion" by Muybridge, quite a
classic (got lots of photos of people going through motions, one of
the very first books in which photography was used to aid artists).

It depends on what it is you mean by 'anatomy.'
The best books on it are those designed for
the medical sectors, but useful for artists
as well. In fact, at one time artists in some
schools were required to observe and draw
from dissected cadavers in morgues.
If you are asking about 'art books' that
show anatomical details, there is a virtually
endless list of 'drawing the _____ figure'
books in publication, but I've found this
particular one to be the most helpful for
those needing 'sketches' of underlying
anatomy:
Artistic Anatomy by Walter Farrington Moses.
My copy is paperback but I have no idea
if it's still in print and available.
The drawback (pun?), as I see it, is that this book,
like many others, relies on the artist's
rendering of anatomy vs the medical books
which show actual photos of dissected cadavers.
Good pun! Thanks for the references. I do have a few books, including
"Grey's Anatomy". I want something that probably falls between "for
artists" and "for Med students."
I have "Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist", by Stephen Rogers Peck, and
"Anatomy for the Artist," by Jeno Barcsay; have had both books since I was
in artschool a while back. I recently picked up Robert Beverly Hale's
"Master Class in Figure Drawing," but haven't had a chance to work with it
yet.
... still, thought I'd ask about others.
