Hi everybody,
I'm a student of art history and about to write my thesis with the
following title "Buying, Selling and Presenting Art in an art
gallery".
In order to start my project I'm looking for literature (english,
german, spanish) concerning this topic and more specific mailing lists
than this one.
My thesis will include the buyers motivation for buying art
(collection, decoration, investment, etc.), the work in an art gallery
( I'm collaborating with an art gallery) and the standards of
presenting art in a gallery compared to the ones in a museum. For all
this points I'm looking for literature, especifically about galleries.
I'm appreciating your help and waiting for good literature hints.
Thanks,
Xina

Xina,
Look up the work of McArthur Fellowship (Genius Award) recipient Fred
Wilson. His Mining the Museum exhibit at the Maryland Historical Society
several years ago will shed a tremendous amount of light on your research
project.
Good Luck,
UA

Thanks UA, but it is not exactly what I'm looking for... It's the
right direction, but my thesis is about galleries and not museums and
I need more theoretical essays than artworks. Thanks anyway,

[Take a look at the Discussions page on the Kleinart site:
http://www.kleinart.com/Discussions/discussions.html Paul Klein is a Chicago
gallerist who writes well about how he sees the relationship between artist
and gallery, why people buy art, how to look at it, etc. Let us know when
your thesis is finished, particularly if you're posting it online somewhere-
it sounds interesting.]

Good luck-
