i put my name forward recently as a moderator for the moderated board.
why did i do this ? well simply i believe that the way the board is
currently moderated is unacceptable and i wanted to be a focal point
for the protest votes for people to show their dismay at the way
things are carried out on that board.
i know i will not win the vote and i do not expect to. i know that
some of the moderators who hold grudges against me have organised
enough votes to ensure i do not get elected. so be it, that is life.
however i would appeal to you all if you are concerned about them and
their excesses to lend me your vote simply to register a protest.
i would moderate differently if i won. i do not see the role of
moderator as being anything other than being a servant of the group.
the moderators seem to think the group is accountable to them. it is
not. they are accountable to the group and should be held to account
for their actions. sadly for the majority of them it is about their
ego trip and it is a classic case of giving power, however menial, to
an insubstantial person. it becomes the focus of their lives.
compare the poor job they do on radwm to that on og. i have posted on
og under a pseudonym since june and have never had so much as a
warning or a rebuke and have posted plenty of posts that would have
been kicked on radwm for no good reason other than personal grudges..
the board is lightly moderated and the debates are fun and allowed to
flow. radwm is totally different and needs a new focus, it needs the
same approach and that is something i offer.
vote common sense, vote hdf, vote for a change.
thank you for listening to me.

What name are you running under? Do I just print
I vote for "your name" as moderator?
Wouldn't matter -- the vote must come from an address on the
pre-approved poster list, or well-known alias of a poster on that
list.
HDF is almost certain to get more "no" votes, and IMO stands virtually
no chance of getting elected.

Couple of things Jim - Shannon has just put the vote thingy back up,
and nowhere does it say that you have to be on the pre-approved poster
list (in any case, that would stop people on hand mod from voting)
just that you had to have a valid e-mail address and a valid name or
well established psedonym.
Obviously Shannon is a respected member of the newsgroups, but even
so, I would be very rarely of giving the pre-approved poster list out
to anyone (baring in mind that act could be illegal in certain
countries due to Data Protection laws) if that rule was actually
enforced.
Ah, that sounds like favoritism. Based on who is placed on the list and who
is not placed on the list at somebody's discretion, that can slant the
election so it predetermines the outcome.
You have the right to say Yes or No!

Alberta on 22 Nov 2004 Boot out Ralph Klein - Vote Liberal!!
I think Jim has gotten the procedures for lodging complaints in
moderators (which require a pre-approved address) and voting (which
simply requires a valid return email address and a name or recognised
nom de plume) mixed up.
As long as dburns uses the form made available by Shannon on radwm, the
vote will count.

The form? Where do I go to look for the form?
And is submitted accordingly.
You might be best able to read it rec.arts.drwho.moderated .
where it has my name and my email address under that it says vote:,
basically you just simply append yes or no or abstain to that.

Ah yes, you're quite right -- got my terms mixed up, but that's what I
meant. Valid return email address and a recognized name. Of course
those on hand mod ought to be eligible to vote.
I thought you had to have posted in RADWM before, though.

Google groups is a safe bet -- as is any newsreader that carries
RADWM.
Still, by now the point is moot, as HDF was overwhelmingly defeated,
yes?
Many said no to you.
as i expected. get over it jim-bob. you are still free to troll and
insult people with impunity.
that is democracy.
