In Australia, Rupert Murdoch's pay TV network bought a load of popular
BBC shows that were traditionally shown on government free-to-air
channels.
BUT DOCTOR WHO WAS NOT ONE OF THESE.

Obviously it was too expensive for him considering other networks are paying

As others have remarked, either Dr Who is a liability or it is too
expensive. As being a liability would not appear to be the case it must
be too expensive for him to have exclusive rights.

Complete bollocks.

Rupert Murdoch owns (or part owns) Sky TV Australia / New Zealand. Sky TV
Australia / New Zealand owns the free-to-air channel Prime. Prime is
currently showing the latest part-season episodes.

Plus, Sky TV's UKTV channel is also playing Doctor Who episodes (re-runs
and the one Doctor per mmonth anniversary episodes)

Rupert Murdoch HAS bought Doctor Who.

Murdoch can be described as many things. Bankrupt is not one of them. But go
on then - why don't you explain why you think he's bankrupt?

No, you said he was bankrupt. Being "bankrupt" is very different to being
"morally bankrupt".

So even though you won't admit to it, you were wrong when you said he was
bankrupt. Now you've changed it to morally bankrupt. Do you know why you
think he's morally bankrupt?

Nicely explained. No wait, you explained nothing.

Rupert Murdoch owns the Sun newspaper. So what? Are you saying Murdoch is
morally bankrupt because his paper raised 7 million for the "Help for
Heroes" charity? Is he morally bankrupt because the Sun runs a "Free Books
for Schools" promotion and campaign? Are you saying he's morally bankrupt
because Sun reporters won "Reporter of the Year" in 2001, 2004, 2005 and
2008?

In short - how did you work out that Murdoch "morally bankrupt" because of

One newspaper report said the ABC has a "lifetime agreement" for Doctor Who
and insinuated that is why Foxtel did not take it.
Anyway pay TV in Australia has low market share compared to other affluent
nations, so they will keep trying to siphon programs off FTA TV.

Wrong. Murdoch didn't tap anyone's phones. He argued that since he ran a
global business of 53,000 employees and that the News of the World was "just
1%" of this, he was not ultimately responsible for what went on at the
tabloid. He added that he and the other top executives had been completely
unaware of the hacking.

Can't say I remember Blackadder saying that. But I'll take your word for it.
Whatever, it seems to be more the kind of things religious nutters would
prefer doing. Just a few days ago a couple of Russian brothers set off a
bomb at the Boston marathon. The older brother described himself as a "very

An audio clip from The Mind Robber and Masque of Mandragora about
Russian brothers setting off a bomb at the Boston marathon? Well, I'd
love to hear that.

But we're still waiting for you to post a clip from The Sensorites
where Susan explains how genetics affects telepathy.

I don't recall the Doctor (or any other character) insulting atheists
in either The Mind Robber or Masque of Mandragora.

And even if he did, it still isn't relevant to the discussion, since
Dr Johnson wasn't an atheist. (Yes, yes, we all know how he famously
refuted a specific point of Bishop Berkeley's theology, but that's not
enough to make him an atheist by modern standards!)

No, the episodes don't say that about atheists. You've got the
context totally wrong. (So no change there.)

Anyway, what's wrong with sausages? I love sausages.

And pay TV in Australia is expensive. Why pay Murdoch and Telstra to watch
ads interspersed with the occasional TV show or movie when you can get a
Telstra internet account (or better yet, a cheaper rival) and download
ad-free versions of the shows/movies in much higher quality, and watch them
when you want.

As usual, you've got things completely mixed up. In the Mind Robber, the
Doctor said that if the Master of Fiction's plans went through then "Mankind
would be like a string of sausages, all the same." Which is quite different
to what you said. And has nothing to do with atheists.

Is it? Then please explain, with detailed examples, how the context of
both The Mind Robber and Masque of Mandragora involves atheists and Dr
Johnson's dictionary. Because I can't see any connection at all.
