I think that as Susan comes from the same race then she might be able to
change her appearance. However Carole Ford (who played Susan) is still
active and recently appeared on the special features of the Doctor story
'The reign of Terror' which has been recently released on DVD so there is
no reason why she can't be an actor in a Doctor Who story as an older
Susan.

Yes there is. There was a Time War. The only Time Lord left in the universe
is the Doctor.

Which means there is no Susan.

Except for The Master showing up.
The Doctor rebooting the universe in "The Big Bang", then being brought back
himself by Amy. (And River, but River would never have existed without The
Doctor being brought back.)
Most recently we have Clara "fixing" The Doctor's timeline after the GI
tried to destroy it.

> Which means there is no Susan.

Which means, just about, ANYTHING is possible. Timelords being amongst least
difficult since there is no need for either the original actor or an actor
who closely resembles them.

The whole point of the Time War in the first place was so RTD could kick off
a new series of Dr Who and do away with the continuity he wasn't interested
in.

Now of course, with Dr Who, a writer can bring back any old character they
want to - as long as the show's front runner (being RTD from 2005 and Moffat
from 2009) is in agreement. But I've seen no indication that Moffat's in any
hurry to "undo" the Time War.

Can't say I'm in any hurry to revisit Gallifrey (Big Finish has done that
for anyone who's desperate) or the Time Lords. Susan was never a
particularly rounded character and was dumped on Earth at the drop of a hat
by the first Doctor. He's seen her once since then - in the Five Doctors,
when the first Doctor looked like a totally different man. So there's been
little to indicate the Doctor gave a damn about Susan prior to the Time War.
Although again, if you really want a story with Susan, Carole Ann Ford has
reprised the role for Big Finish.

Well, we know we're going to be seeing the Junkyard and Susan's
school, but I hope that's not all there is to it, myself, as
Remembrance of the Daleks already beat it to that. According to the
school sign, Ian Chesterton is now head master, but hopefully
"bringing back the first male companion" also isn't the highlight of
the story, because really, who cares?

I'm still upset that none of the previous Doctors have been asked to
participate. Actually, I could take or leave McCoy, but McGann really
deserves a chance to take on the role on tv again. And, unless they
have something else planned for this year that they aren't talking
about, this is realistically the past Docs last chance to be a part of
Who, what with the next anniversary being 15 years away...

However cool and awesome the 50th turns out to be, some part of me
will always be angry at Moffat for epically dropping the ball like
this...

Well they can't be bringing back William Russell in either case. You don't
get many 90 year old headmasters...

Why? The 50th anniversary should be a celebration for Dr Who, not a
celebration for anyone who's ever had a part in it.

Have you seen what the actors from the classic series look like now? So
they're all out (although McGann could just about get away with it).
Eccleston wants no part. So that only leaves Tennant.

The only place they really work today is audio. And Big Finish is doing an
audio featuring all the living actors to play the Doctor prior to Eccleston.

He hasn't dropped the ball. Name of the Doctor was the closest thing we've
had to fanwank in the new series. We don't need any more.

You mean that old Sontaran spin off or the making of fictionalization?
Your missing the point, The show wasn't on for 50 years, the first episode
will have been 50 years old.
I agree the Character could be in her second to fifth life by then.

ĄYes there is. There was a Time War. The only Time Lord left in the universe
Ąis the Doctor.
Ą
ĄWhich means there is no Susan.

Susan was left on earth and he never went back for her yet as promiced.
Her kid, would it have a Galifreyen iris (eye pattern)?
The Time war would require anyone willing to fight it to show up with their capsul, she had none.
I doubt the Rani would defend Galifrey either, the Monk is left behind.
Explain last of the time lords.
I get why actors don't look into character history but the second unit people should.

You ought to know better. Not just RTD or Moffat.

Susan wouldn't have to have survived the time war to be in the
anniversary special. She could always appear in a flashback or via
some kind of temporal fiddling. Given that we left our heroes lost in
the Doctor's personal timestream, that kind of seems like the ideal
setup for tossing in literally ANY returning character that tickles
their fancy.

For that matter, we know of only one thing where if the Doctor did it,
he'd feel compelled to give up his name, and that's sacrificing an
innocent life for "the greater good". If John Hurt is indeed playing
the Time War Doctor, perhaps the big reveal will be that at some point
he had to sacrifice his own granddaughter's life.
