Does anyone know if John Fitton of "John Fitton Books and Magazines" is
still around? Haven't seen of heard about him in ages! I used to buy all my
Dr Who Weeklies from him. Would love to know he is still doing ok.

Tim.

Alas I believe John Fitton is no longer with us.As your probably aware
John's "real" job was a Policeman but he wasn't killed in the line of
duty...sadly someone knocked him off his bicycle on the way home from work
some years back. Not long after his son closed down his mail order book and
magazine service. There isn't much of an obituary about but there is a line
or two mentioned on the Derbyshire Constabulary police website...

Thanks Bazza,

Goodness I never know that John was a Policeman? I always thought that the
mail order business was his full time job!!! Very sorry to hear that he has
passed on..... His old website is still up, so maybe someone should take it
down now?

Thanks for getting back to me..

Tim.

I'm really saddened to hear that too - his service was the first mail order
DW I used. I used to live in Northern Ireland and, on one trip to England in
1996, I decided to drop by his shop. Rather naive of me, but I assumed that
JF B& M was a shop! Imagine my horror when I found myself outside someone's
house! Mr Fitton was very polite and invited me to look around his shop (the
shed in his back garden) and I selected a number of items to buy. Once I had
paid for them I said my goodbye, thanks and then made a quick exit. I think
I was reluctant to buy anything further after that out of sheer
embarrasment. So sad now to know that he died the following year.

He wasn't a Police Officer - that was just a coincidence that an Officer with the same name died around the same time John closed down his business:
