I would be very grateful if someone in the US who has such a machine, or anyone
that knows of such a machine could tell me the make, model and approximate
price.

She'll also need a TV that can handle 625 line PAL as well... not very
common at all in the US, I'm afraid!
However, she could buy a standards converting VCR which allows true
conversion between the two video formats, in which case she could play PAL
tapes and they would be converted (fairly roughly!) to NTSC for display on
a standard US TV. I'd suggest the Samsung SV-5000 - that's what I use at
work for that sort of job. Also the Panasonic NV-W1, although I think it
may be out of production now.

You can get multi-standard VCR's pretty much anywhere now. I've even seen them at
Best Buy.
Here's one from off of Amazon, to give you an idea:

Multi-standard VCRs that do the conversion themselves are very hard to come
by. I've seen models made by Aiwa and Samsung that seem to be only available
either on the internet or in stores that sell top of the line models, but they
are quite pricey....I believe the cheapest I've found is $500 for the Samsung
model of which the sepcific model number escapes me right now...

Now ducking spoilers for "Banquo Legacy", "The Ancestor Cell", "The Burning", and (now this is getting bloddy annoying) "Casualties of War". (Will somebody please tell me when London Bridge gets their act together? At this rate it'll be 2002 before I see any of these books let alone read them!)
