Now, when *I* heard the story first a few months ago, Disney refused to
buy the animal, partly because the guy wanted too much and partly because
they don't have a petting zoo. Has something changed? Do any of the parks
have a petting zoo ... or anyplace such an animal could be housed?
Is there any truth at all to this piece of DisneyLore???

Today's ALBUQUERQUE TRIBUNE ran a story and photo on this, credited to
the AP. Yes, there is such a cow . . . she's a Holstein named Minnie
(ha!) who has no markings at all on her left side except for three
circles that mimic the Mickey Mouse silhouette almost exactly. She's
going to Walt Disney World for the petting zoo, and should arrive at
the park this coming Sunday. Her former owner is one Melvin Brockberg
of Edgerton, Minnesota. The sale follows a two-year-old letter-writing
campaign to Disney which was started by Brockberg's niece.
If you're in WDW, it's probably worth the trip to see Minnie. You'll
be surprised at just how much like Mickey the markings look. (If it
had happened in New Mexico, someone would have started a cult. :-)

By the way, the cow is called "Mickey Moo" and about 2 or 3 months ago
had a baby (which is also in a pen near the petting zoo). The baby doesn't
have the Mickey design.

*bzzzt!* According to both television and newspaper stories that
I've seen on the subject, the cow's name is Minnie. (What self-
respecting cow would call herself Mickey? :-)

Well, according to the show "Diz Kids" on the Disney Channel, the
naems is Mickey Moo. They outa know, right? I saw this a month or two
ago.
Of course, it's possible there's another cow and they've named this
one Minnie to match with Mickey Moo. Although it seems unlikely, I've
gotten the impression from the different reports on this group that
two different cows are being talked about.

Well, there may be *two* such cows then, because I saw the original
Mickey Moo this past week at Disneyland. (As someone else mentioned,
she's in the Big Thunder Ranch.) I have photos to prove it.
Here's the exact text from the sign on her corral:
MICKEY MOO
A neighbor, walking past a dairy farm
in North Whitefield, Maine
noticed that the spots on one side of this
handsome Holstein bore a striking
resemblance to Mickey Mouse.
See for yourself.
It's right there in black and white.
I didn't ask any of the ranchhands whether there's another cow, or
whether this one is being transferred. ("Excuse me, is this cow
moving to Florida?") I suppose they've heard sillier questions, though...
Maybe the next netperson to visit DL or WDW can ask.
And you can take it up with the Disney folks as to why a female bovine
is called "Mickey".

p.s. Full report on our visit to follow after I get caught up on
my real work! Executive synopsis: Star Tours itself is worth the
price of admission. And Pirates is down until Dec. 22. :-(

Also, cow tipping is supposedly an old country sport where a bunch of folks
go running up to the cow, and throw their weight at it/at its neck, etc,
trying to tip it over. I've heard a couple of scary stories where people
have accidentally tipped a bull (in the dark), but I cannot verify or deny
any of these claims.
