Last night the kids got here about 7p so we walked thru to Downtown
Disney and to the Grand Californian and got dinner at the Storyteller
Cafe. We ate there last time too. No ADR but about a 15 minute wait.
Service was good, food was fine and we all had full bellies. As we were
leaving Downtown Disney, the fireworks started so we stood in the center
of the plaza (I have no idea what they call that connecting area!) and
watched then to CCI. It was a little drizzly but not bad at all. Temp
was nice too.

Today was a different story. I was drizzly in the morning when we
headed to the Disneyland about 9a. We got in the park quickly and we had
to find the Annual Pass center first. It used to be in Town Square
right when you walked in but it's been moved to the white building
(looks like the Crystal Palace at the MK) and get Amy her Christmas
present; a premium AP. The tickets that came with the package, helped a
whole lot. Amy's tickled with it too. Then we fast walked to Haunted
Mansion and walked in the stretch room. No line outside at all which was
a good thing since the rain picked up. We all enjoyed our trip thru
Jack's Christmas fantasy. As we came out, there was a line. Amy was
desparate for coffee so the two of us went to the Gumbo place and waited
in line forever to get it. Then we went to Pirates. This one is so
different from MK. It's longer, two drops and more rooms. Captains Jack
were all present ( I was concerned that they were off with Larry) and
when we came out of there, there was a line. We were about 5 minutes
ahead of the crowd. Then the rain started... again. Folks, it was mostly
on all day long. Ross had pulled FPs for Indy but when we went to get
in line they were gone. Ross has a hole in his inside pocket. Sooo He
got more and we then headed towards it's a small world. Ross will NOT go
on this but Andy did agree to it; without me twisting his arm. BUT
unlike MK, this line is OUTSIDE. The boat we go into had about half an
inch of water in it. Yippeee. After that,we headed to Redd Rockett's
for lunch. INDOORS. Salads and pizza, pretty good too. Ross went and
got FPS for Space Mountain and we headed to Innoventions. We all
wanted to see Asimo. The intro was pretty tough because no one wanted to
volunteer to be part of the band. I finally volunteered Amy ( Heck I
volunteered the first time!) and she was awesome on the electric guitar.
Then we went thru the first floor, up to the second floor, played
some video games and missed the 2p Asimo show so we will go back tomorrow.

When we came out of Innoventions we made a beeline for Space Mountain.
Amy decided to pass and Andy said heck no. BUT it was down so we
piddled about for awhile and it opened and Ross and I pretty much walked
on to the cars. It is an amazing ride. I think the music really makes it
special. The crescendos emphasis the turns and twists and you don't go
upside down which I really like. Very cool. We might do that tomorrow
too. After that we pulled PFs for Buzz and went to do Indy. Andy sat
this one out. Too much bumpy stuff. We came out from Buzz and headed
to Main St. I was hungry and wanted some sugary goodness. Well, the
rain was pretty steady by now. Andy and Amy wanted umbrellas (Ross and I
were fine) and there was not an umbrella to be found in the whole park.
Amazing. People were lined up to buy candy canes too. So we left. And
the rain came even harder. By the time we got back to the CCI, we were
all pretty wet. We sat around and finally decided we were NOT going
back tonight. All the weather reports said 100% rain tonight, clearing
in the morning. So we went to The Hat for supper! We had stumbled
onto The Hat in Pasadena a few years ago. Pastrami sandwiches are
amazing and gravy fries. The kids were up for that too. So off we go to
Brea. It was darn good too. The sandwiches seem to have been downsized
which is OK with us. They are huge. We should have gotten the chili
cheese fries. After supper we headed back to the resort area and that
was that.

Tomorrow should be a much better day. The rain is supposed to clear off
in the morning and be party sunny the rest of the day. I sure hope so.
We never went to DCA today either. Maybe we go first there and get on
Toy Story Mania or at least get FPs for it. It all depends....

I really hope the rain clears for the end of your trip. Hopefully it will be
like dessert-you know how you always remember a great ending to a meal?

Two questions-
A friend who just came back from DL told me that IASW is also dressed up for
Christmas. How did you like it?
What is Asimo?

Asimo is a free standing robot made by Honda that's able to
walk, climb and descend stairs, kick balls, etc. It's a very
impressive show in Innoventions (i.e. the old Carousel of Progress.)

It's one 'V' away from Asimov. I wonder if that's where they
got the name...

Keane, in a disappointing 42 degrees in Chattanooga, heading
for an even more disappointing 35 degrees in Chicago, who
also knows it could be much worse....

Yes liked it very much. There is even a tiny Elvis figure in front of
Stitch. And they mixed Christmas tunes with the never ending song. The
water in the boat was too much.

I guess I should not complain about the rain with what you get to see
when you get home.

If you were in the space between the two park entrances, it is called the
Esplanade.

That building used to be the Plaza Pavilion Restaurant once upon a time.
Not to be confused with the Plaza Inn Restaurant that sits directly across
from it and is still open for business. I don't recall when the Pavilion
stopped being a restaurant but it underwent some construction last year to
make it into the Annual Passport processing center. The AP's used to be
issued from the old Bank of Main Street, which used to be an actual bank for
years. That also recently underwent construction this year and recently
re-opened as the new Disney Gallery. The old Gallery was the space above
Pirates but closed a couple of years ago so that they could build the Dream
Suite to give away to a few lucky Guests during the Year of a Million
Dreams. (Oh my gosh. It is an endless cycle of closing, construction, and
re-opening places!) The new Gallery is nice. They left the old bank vault
in there which is pretty neat to look at.

DL Pirates is a far superior to MK Pirates. The Captains know that. Larry
knows that. Say, what's up with all this talk about Larry lately anyway?

I've never been to The Hat. I'll have to try it some time. Most people who
visit here want to go to In-N-Out. :-)

I hope today to actually go INTO a shop to shop not to get out of the
rain. And I don't intend to stand in the very long line for the hand
make candy canes either. That Guy Fieri show on Disneyland Christmas
stirred up business. They make them hourly now.

You have to live with a crazed squid and the Barbie. I just get to read
about it.

Oh yeah, I meant to mention about that new Food Network holiday show with
Guy. I got to watch it on my flight home from WDW. But I fell asleep. I
was able to record it on the DVR this week so I could watch what I missed.
He actually filmed that right before Christmas last year. I was not aware
he was going to be there that day. I was doing a little Christmas shopping
on Main Street when I saw this large crowd gathered outside the Candy
Palace. I walked into the adjacent store but could not really see what was
going on. Just a bunch of people and camera equipment so I knew some kind
of filming was going on. Finally, I caught a glimpse of the top of a blonde
spikey head. That's when I realized who was in there. :-) I saw him come
out and take pictures with some Cast Members. That was when he was filming
the candy canes bit. They were holding them.

That center area is the esplanade.

Lisa, it's so great to read a DisneyLAND trip report for a change!
Though I'm sorry the weather wasn't too good for your visit. :-(

I know you're in San Diego today where it has been clear and sunny all
day, though only in the 60s, so not really all that warm...but it's not
raining!

Monday in San Diego was lovely. Warm-ish, no rain. We went to the Wild
Aminal Park, took the tram ride. Lots of animals out and then left. We
had dinner at a cousin's home over looking I5 and the dog beach on the
ocean. Totally unobstructed view and they are going to sell it and move
to the Boston area after the first of the year for his work. It would
be very hard to leave that view. I could vision Andy hanging a zillion
bird feeders.

I agree. I don't know where people eat when they go to DL. The

The single-most best time we ever went to DL was when we did a travel
package (can't remember if it was through AAA or Disney Travel) but it
included an ultimate fastpass, which meant you could hold multiple
fastpasses at a time. We sent my one teenage son with all the tickets to
get fastpasses for different rides while the rest of us waited. It was nice
as we were there for a whole week and got to ride everything we wanted to as
much as we wanted. It's one thing if you're an AP holder to ride the rides
you like best, but for someone who only visits once in a great while and
goes to great expense to do it, it does away with the disappointment of
going to DL and missing out on rides because of all the lines.

Anyone here familiar with Tokyo's Space Mt.? I only rode it once, in 1991.
From what I recall, it was the DLand style cars, seating two across, but it
was my favorite of the three SMs I've ridden. (I know that Tomorrowland in
Tokyo has had at least one big makeover since '91, but not sure how it has
affected the attraction itself.)

I know there are a couple other Tokyo veterans here - any other
recollections on the Mountain?
