INTRODUCTION:
This is a solo trip – something I haven’t really had in a while! When it’s too hot for the parks it makes sense to bring Holli & get a big enough villa to invite Chris’ family as well. Holli enjoys relaxing by the pool, and either sitting at a bar or doing the faux concierge lounge in the villa. Chris’ family doesn’t let the heat & humidity keep them out of the parks, but they also spend time enjoying the villa. However, for this trip it should finally be more tolerable to enjoy Food & Wine Festival, and for that I want quick & easy access via Beach Club Villas! Believe it or not, I haven’t done Food & Wine Festival yet this year. When Disney started it in July I thought that was just ridiculous – and still do. It’s too hot to enjoy it! It will probably still be too hot in the afternoon during this trip, but I can enjoy much more pleasant evenings strolling around World Showcase. A studio is all I need for a solo trip, and without SB or others along there’s no pressure to do anything other than exactly what I feel like doing at the moment, so I’m really looking forward to this little trip.
I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with SB, Chris’ family and others, so during that trip I’ll visit all the parks – not because I really want to, but to spend time with them. This trip I booked park reservations at Epcot every day. There’s nowhere else I want to be, as Food & Wine Festival is the only priority, so there wasn’t any point in going to some other park first – especially when I’d rather just be by the pool. I need to start working on a tan, since I have a HAL cruise coming up in early December, and don’t want to board the ship as white as I am currently.
Gideon’s has become an indulgent high-calorie splurge for cookies, and during October their cookie of the month is the Monster. It’s basically a chocolate chip cookie but covered in mini M&Ms and it has some oreos in the dough as well. It sounds like something I’d like, and since this is my only October trip I plan to head there upon arrival. As usual, I’ll park in the Orange garage so any stuff in the car isn’t sitting in the hot sun. Assuming I can join the virtual queue, I’ll spend the waiting time getting a glass of wine at Jock Lindsay or somewhere else in the area. I’ll bypass any food and wait for Food & Wine Festival later! Once the room is ready and my cookie is obtained, I’ll get settled in at Beach Club Villas and make the rounds of Food & Wine Festival!
Friday will be pool time and Food & Wine Festival. Sunday will be the same. Saturdays have historically been miserable at Food & Wine (too crowded), so I’ll enjoy the pool again but then head to Chefs de France for a late lunch. It’s possible I may check out Harmonious some evening, only because when it’s over I can walk back to my room.
I’ll really miss the Eat to the Beat concerts and am not interested in the local bands they’re bringing in. If I happen to wander by when one is performing and they sound great I will stop, but based on what I saw at the last Flower & Garden Festival I won’t be missing anything if I skip them.
The plans so far are:
Thursday 10/21: Drive to WDW, Gideon’s, Food & Wine
Friday 10/22: Pool, Food & Wine
Saturday 10/23: Pool, Chefs de France
Sunday 10/24: Pool, Food & Wine
Monday 10/25: Drive to Gainesville
