Why does anyone think that people on this newsgroup would want to be
spending money on watches rather than saving for a trip to DISNEY
WORLD?

I'm looking for some ideas to save money for the trip -- I was about
to take my 'change jar' to the bank, but figured I'd keep it going
until we are about to leave for DW, and then have all of that 'found
money' for goodies!

Any advantages to getting a Disney credit card? I would/could use it
for a Disney-Only account.

Other ideas are welcome.

For a few years, we had an American Express Hilton Honors card, and one
of their rewards is Disney theme park tickets, to either Disneyland or WDW.

I have the Disney Visa and am a Charter Member. I use it for my
Disney trips and have used it for discounts on behind the scenes tours
and things like that. You can earn rewards but I don't use it enough
to actually earn lots of rewards. If you are the kind of person who
charges EVERYTHING and then pays the card off at the end of each
month, it might be a good thing for you to do that. I'm not sure what
the interest rate is; it's a Chase credit card.

I got the Disney Credit Card by Chase and when we signed up we got a
$25 gift card to spend or add it to our points---we had about 125
points to spend on at WDW for our trip.

Yep, save the real budget for everyone else's souvenirs, and use the

Yes, there are advantages.

Here's one:

They also recently had a room discount for cardholders.
For the rest, click on the Mickey card:

I'm one of those! I use the card for everything, and pay it off
(twice) a month. Never carry credit card balances. It's a losing
proposition. (Anyway, fyi, the current interest rate is 11.4%, at
least for me...)

WDW benefits are here:

http://disneyrewards.disney.go.com/cardbenefits/waltdisneyworldresortbenefits.html

I'm a charter member too, and since it's inception I've probably
"earned" over $2K in "rewards". (Periodically, I've gotten offers
from chase for 5x the rewards for food and/or gas purchases, which
really boost the number of reward dollars you get.)

I use the card for everything, just to get the reward dollars. My
house and car insurance, cell phone bills, water bills, groceries...
Anyplace that takes a credit card without a surcharge. I had to buy
two new central A/C units, and two new furnaces a couple of years
ago. Yep, they took Visa. :-)) And it's not as if my purchases
will be any cheaper if I *don't* use the card.

It's paid for 3/4 of a stay at AKL one year, my current AP, *many*
very nice dinners at WDW, my complete stay at my upcoming POFQ and
MVMCP tickets this December (if I can go), etc. That dinner bill at
Citricos isn't *nearly* as bad if you use a rewards card...

Oh, and if you are applying for a card, I'll send you a referral
number that's get us both 25 reward dollars... :-)

BTW, I have seen offers for up to 50 reward dollars for getting
the card, but haven't seen it lately. But do look around. When I
applied, all I got was a lousy pin. :-)

It's also a funny way to find other Disney fans, since they always
seem to comment on the card when they see it. (I was in Moab
at the Arches NP Visitor Center buying something, and the woman
behind the register commented on how the card sparkles. I told
her "It's pixie dust!" Had a good laugh over that one...)

I paid for my daughter's wedding reception with the card. I asked if
they took plastic and when they said "Yes" it was either write them a
check now or write a check in a month and get some serious Disney
reward dollars. Easy decision.

We do this, and the rewards card usually covers the Disney shopping on
our trips.

Another perk was getting our picture with Minnie at Innoventions for
free.

I bought a new Toyota Camry with my card and got about $200 in rewards to
spend on top of what I already had. That same year we each had enough
skymiles for a free flight, BOS to MCO and back, non-stop. It was great,
almost a free trip.

I gave up my Disney card a couple of months ago. Mainly because I use
my Amazon Visa and get rewards at the same rate that I use to buy
other cool stuff with. It was great for the tour discounts (Segway
twice), a free photo at Innoventions and not having to think about
spending money on stuff in the parks. It's also great because it's an
almost daily reminder of where I'd probably rather be. The downside is
that you don't think about the money you're spending off of the
rewards card. Out of the $60 or so I had on my last trip, about $20
went to stuff I would not have otherwise bought.

The card also makes store clerks smile.

BTW: When I cancelled mine, I was getting a 10.9% rate. My Amazion
card, also through Chase is at 9%. If you lean on them, they'll
usually drop the rate.

Talking about the Disney Rewards Visa card, I just took a survey
with Chase (and Disney) about a line of new cards, and what I thought
about certain card packages. I was also promised a check for $20 for
taking the survey. We'll see if they pay up... :-)

The most interesting card, was the most probable one, the Premium
Disney Rewards Visa Signature Card. It's a Visa signature card,
with the following benefits:

- 50 Disney Dream Reward Dollars (DDRDs) after your first purchase,
- 2% on Disney purchases, 1% on everything else,
- For every 100 DDRDs you redeem (have to redeem all 100 at
once), you get a bonus of 25 DDRDs,
- A $50 annual fee, but you get 50 DDRD's every year on your
anniversary.
- DDRDs expire 5 years after they're issued.

Also interesting were my opinions on perks Disney might include
with the card:

- $50 recreation pass valid for a variety of activities including
miniature golf, bicycle or water craft rentals during your stay - A
ride-along experience from the Richard Petty Driving Experience for
one person
- 20-minute session with a photographer from Disney's PhotoPass
Professional Portrait Service.
- Private car airport transportation to and from the airport and your
Disney owned and operated hotel at Walt Disney World® or Disneyland®
Resorts.
- One round of golf at a Walt Disney World® golf course (restrictions
apply)
- Admission for one child at one of Disney's children's programs at
Walt Disney World® Resort such as the Wonderland Tea Party. - Get the
most out of your Disney Theme Parks visit by spending an
hour at the start of your day with a Disney VIP Tour Services guide.
He or she can help create a personalized itinerary, arrange lunch or
dinner reservations for you, and provide insider tips so you spend
your time having fun instead of planning. - Entry for one person to
one of our famous group guided tours such as
"Walk in Walt's Footsteps." All guided tours include "behind the
scenes" access, lunch, and of course lots of fun experiencing the
magic of Disney attractions and shows with an expert. - 30-minute
lesson with a golf professional at one of the Walt Disney
World® golf courses
- $50 off a spa treatment at Walt Disney World® or Disneyland® Resorts
- Resort Refillable Mugs for up to 4 people in your party to enjoy
unlimited soft drink or coffee refills at your Walt Disney World® or
Disneyland® Resort hotel throughout your stay - Valet parking at your
Walt Disney World® or Disneyland® Resort hotel during your stay
- Dessert for up to 4 people in your party at one meal at a
participating restaurant during your stay - Access for up to 5 people
to a VIP viewing area for one of Disney's
famous parades, shows, or fireworks spectaculars (limited
availability, first come-first served).
- VIP check-in service to expedite your hotel check-in and baggage
delivery so you and your family can start your vacation within moments
of arrival.

I didn't have to digitally sign a non-disclosure agreement, so I
suppose I'm safe posting this... :-)

There were also some absolutely insane cards they wanted my
opinion on, with annual fees ranging from $35 to $375, some
actually worthwhile if you go to Disneyworld or Disneyland a lot.

Like me. Heh. I can summarize some of them if someone's
interested, but this post is too long as it is...

Has anyone else gotten a postcard for a survey about the Disney
Rewards card?
I just finished the survey (they say they'll pay me $20!) about a
possible "Premium
Disney Rewards card/program".

Basically, they asked about how much I was willing to pay for a Disney
Credit Card
(currently free) based on the level of rewards offered. Some of the
scenarios were
clearly outlandish (for me!) and others more realistic. Not
surprisingly, the type of rewards
offered would make great sense for those who plan an annual Disney
vacation
(WDW, DLR or Cruise). For example, while all scenarios included an
annual fee,
they also included at least as many disney reward dollars to cover
that cost, in addition
to other rewards and more generous terms to earn disney reward
dollars with credit
card usage.

...NO. :(

(And I'm ON the card, and just paid for an entire vacation with it!)
