In 2001 I posted my first TR here on RADP. I introduced you to my then 85
yo dad, Pop, who visited WDW for the first time.

Pop's now in home hospice and very sick. The outcome is inevitable but, as
caregivers, all we can do is make him as comfortable as possible. I have
never had a harder job.

Please send your pixie dust, thoughts and prayers so his passing might be
quick and painless and he can join his buddy Gunnar at that Rainbow Bridge.
Thanks.

Oh, Steve, so sorry to hear about Pop! My thoughts are most certainly
with you. Went through the same experience 3 short years ago. Home
Hospice is wonderful. Prayers and pixie dust flying across the river
to you. If you and/or your wife need to get out for a cup of coffee
or to just chat I'm a phone call away. It's quite a journey you have
undertaken. I can picture Gunnar barking and leaping around in tall
green grass now, excited that he won't be alone anymore! Take care,
friend.

Oh, Steve, I am so sorry to hear this. From what you have been saying
about his health, I had a feeling that this would be coming soon. I'm
sending bucket loads of pixie dust and prayers In hope that your dad has a
ready and peaceful transition into the afterlife. I am also sending some
for you and Barb and the rest of the family. I hope that you can all be
comforted in knowing that Pop had a long life with a family that loved him
and will miss him.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, kind words and prayers. I've only
met a few of you in person but have always felt like part of a
cyber-family here. I know that you may not think a few words in a post
are helpful but I can attest that words from you at times like this are
appreciated and very beneficial.

Pop passed away a little over an hour ago. He seems to have waited for
my daughter Stephanie to get here before drawing his last breaths. It's
a sad time but we'll try to celebrate his 96 years.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I fully agree with Bob. And the fact that he had it in him to hold out

Steve, just saw Pop's obit in the paper. So, so sorry for your loss!

Pop's services concluded on Monday and now the healing process begins. I
can't thank you enough for all the thoughts, prayers, pixie dust and
kind words. It was (is) a very difficult time and your kindness helped
us get through it.

It's been a tough year. We're now true "empty nesters" and it feels so
strange. The healing will begin with a short, unexpected trip to WDW in
June. I can't say yet what the purpose is but I know Keane will be envious.

Thanks, Laura.

Things are going as well as they can be. I'm blessed with a great family
- Barb, our kids and their spouses, and a great group of friends and
cousins that are like brothers and sisters.

It's hard and will be for a while. Every morning I get up and walk past
Pop's room. I'm so used to looking in to check on him... and stepping
over Gunnar, who took up a nightly vigil outside his room. He was Pop's
protector.

I know that, with time, it all gets easier. I also know that getting out
of the house for a few days would be a good thing.

Alas, no Admiral Boom (unless she's back in the USA and would agree to
my request for an interview).

That is the toughest part about losing a loved ones (two-legged or
four-legged); seeing the places they used to be and those daily routines of
interaction are hard to deal with.

> I know that, with time, it all gets easier. I also know that getting out

I think that's why some people move. A friend of Katie's died last year in
a car wreck and her parents moved. They just couldn't stand to see their
daughter's empty room. Of course there's the opposite reaction where
people refuse to leave behind anythng - house, clothes cars, etc. My
grandfather refused to even remove my grandmother's toiletries from the
bathroom and her clothes were still ithe closet until the day he died.
Jan's mother was quite the opposite; a few weeks after Jan's dad died, she
cleaned out his stuff. She sold his car and gave his ECV to a neighbor who
needed it. She still missed him, she just didn't need his Earthly
belongings anymore. People just have to deal with grief in their own way.

> Alas, no Admiral Boom (unless she's back in the USA and would agree to my

So let's see...this is a surpise that Keane will be jealous about. Hmm,
and it's not meeting Boom. Really, unless you have bought a Maxima and are
driving from New York, I'm at a loss here! :-)
