Is this video edited? I watched all of the first three minutes, and for
some reason, I remembered Shan-Yu killing the guard who he first meets on
the great wall...
Am I confusing this with another scene of the movie, or was it edited?

No. There's no scene cut from there. The theater version didn't show Shan Yu
killing the guard on the Wall either. Although you could imagine the end of
that guard.
The guard was not killed on screen. The scene ended with Shan-Yu saying
"Perfect" after the guard taunted him with all of China now knowing he
was here.
Brave guard. But probably a pretty dead one two seconds after the camera
clicked off! ;-)

I heard that line on my copy of the video. :)

Huh? My video tape clearly has Granny's line. Could it be your tape is
defective?
cheers.
Mushu [sitting on top of the panda bear behind a dummy of a soldier
using sticks to gesticulate with the dummy's arms to push the note
towards Chi Fu. Cri-Kee works the mouth]: Urgent news from the
general! [Chi Fu looks over the panda] What's the matter, you've
never seen a 'black and white' before?
Chi Fu: Who are you?
Mushu: Excuse me! I think the question is: who are you? We're in a
war man! There's no time for stupid questions. I should have your
hat for that, [the panda starts walking forward] snatch it right off
of your head [swiping with an arm at Chi Fu's hat. Mushu turns the
upper half of the dummy around after the panda passes Chi Fu. Chi Fu
begins reading the message]. But I'm feeling gracious today, so carry
on before I report you. [the panda walks up a tree taking Mushu and
Cri-Kee with him out of sight]
Chi Fu [looking around for Mushu but not finding him, then runs into
Shang's tent]: Captain. Urgent news from the General. We're needed
at the front.
Mushu [from up in the tree]: Pack your bags Cri-Kee, we're movin'
out. [Cri-Kee high fives Mushu]

I dont know about that. But I always get a nagging feeling that TLK *was*edited
in a certain area. I think it was Timon trying to convince the others to stay
behind after Simba ran back to the Pride Lands. But I'm not sure....

I saw the movie again today and I heard the line this time. :) The first
time I saw it, it was pretty noisy, so it probably drowned out the line when it
came on. Sorry for the mixup :)

Okay, NOW I'm getting paranoid. Granny's line WAS there, but VERY faint. (They
wouldn't cut one of the best lines in the movie.) I also experienced some minor
audio problems elsewhere in the tape -- a sort of "skipping". Couple of times
when music was playing it sounded like it was coming from underwater or
something. Maybe a couple of us got defective tapes. Anybody else experience
what I just described? Please e-mail me. I don't want to go through the minor
hassle of exchanging this cassette if I'm likely to get something WORSE!
The line is missing in my copy of the movie. It's really obvious because
Mulan and Shang look off-screen--but for no apparent reason. (June Foray's
line isn't there.)
I think there's another missing line at the end when the chickens follow the
dog into the House of the Ancestors. Like maybe George Takei yells "MULAN!"
or something. All I know is that the dog runs in, the chickens follow,
there's a beat, and both Mushu and Mulan look at the house like they heard
something or something.
Time to take it back, I think.
[ok]

It was a while back, but my first BatB tape had audio problems. There
were some dropouts and faintness, and sometimes the right-side audio
channel was missing. I exchanged it and my second copy had a slightly
inferior picture (not much) but perfect sound, so I kept it. My Mulan
video has pretty poor video, but perfect audio.

This sounds similar to the problem I described above--missing audio on
one of the two channels. Granny's voice in this scene was almost
entirely on the right side, but you should be able to hear some reverb
on the left channel if you listen very carefully.
> Time to take it back, I think.
Probably, since not all copies have this problem. Good luck!
- Robert Cook
Yep. I ran it with my TV set to show captions and there it was.
Good point. Haven't been able to hear it on the left but I ran it with the
captions on to make sure it hadn't been deliberately edited.

Anybody know if DVD copies are less prone to these kinds of diffulties? (I
would assume so since if I understand the process, it's much simpler.)
I just tried turning on closed captioning while playing my Mulan video
and can you guess what happened? My tape apparently doesn't have it!
I checked some of my other videos to see if they have it or if
something's wrong with my TV, and all of them except for Hercules have
it. I give up! :-)

You can make a bad DVD just as surely as a bad VHS tape. It's up to
the manufacturer and how they master, compress, and press the DVD's.
Fortunately, most DVD's are pretty good nowadays, as studios seem to
realize that people who buy DVD's will be pickier.
- Robert Cook
Good, maybe it'll make them realize the important aspects of something called
"Quality Control" :-)
>- Robert Cook
Weird. I suppose when you're dealing with the sorts of volumes Disney does,
you're prone various weirdnesses.

The cynic in me suggests that this makes a convenient "club" to motivate
people to "upgrade".
