When Pain & Panic were trapped for Hercules to save, one of them yelled
something like "somebody call the ----". It sounded like an abbreviation with
4 letters.
If you know what it was and what it meant, can you please let me know? If it
would ruin the joke for others, feel free to email me.
Thanks,
Jeff
I don't know if it will ruin it for others, but the joke was:
'Somebody call IX-I-I!' In Roman Numerals, 9-1-1. That one goes by
so fast in the movie, most of the people at the sneak preview didn't
get it either. I just barely caught it. :)
Cath
I didn't get that joke either when I first saw it, but after I thought
about it, it was hell of funny! They said, "Call IX I I". Now if you know
Roman Numerals, you should get the joke.
I missed this one as well in the theater. After the film I got the Bob
Thomas book. (I did not want it to spoil me). This is shown there in the
storyboard, it is actually a visual joke. I for one need to see numbers
externally, I had great trouble with this in math class mixing the names
of the numbers with the numbers themselves. I did not know this until some
of the more recent studies on how people learn math. I note that when I
now repeat the joke to frends and co workers, with the above explinaton I
some get it immediatly. Others there is this pause, then pow. I reviewed
the film to our monday night Science fiction club got simular results. BTW
there were three reviews of B&R They got worse and worse. What did that
cost 221M & it made 40M. What Herc cost 70M. Think herc can top B&R?
Hercules see it; See it many times again and again.

Oh, I caught it...with a slight delay of course, but I was the ONLY
one in the packed theatre to laugh!! My friends were poking me, trying to
get the joke out of me, and all I could do was laugh...
Actually, a lot of the people in the theatre didn't catch many of the
jokes. Like when Phil starts spinning that dish, and the picture on it
becomes animated? Small things like that...

I have a similar question. When Pain and Panic gave baby Hercules the
potion, I could swear I heard them call it "a little Christian
formula". What did you guys hear?
I heard "A little Grecian Formula" Anyone else?

You've been reading too much about the Disney boycott my friend!
hehee, I believe they said "Grecian" - but I could be wrong. Makes
sense though since they're in Greece... :-/

Trav - you got it - it was "Grecian formula". I took it as a play on
words off the hair tonic that at least used to be on the market to
remove the gray from men's hair. It was called "Grecian Formula".

Yes, I heard this too: Greek gods, Grecian Formula hair coloring for men,
baby formula combo-joke.
The original Disney animators used to get $5/per gag they could think up
for the animated features and Disney cartoons. I wonder how much the
folks at today's Disney Feature Animation earn for each of the little
jokes and gags inserted in Hercules? ;-)
