Vegas Vacation Swing Expo - Results

The 1st Vegas Vacation Swing Expo, with hosts Brian and Bobbie Duncan,
was held Jan. 9-11, at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. A small, but
energetic, crowd enjoyed this reincarnation of the former Swing Expo
event. The schedule was very accommodating to enjoy sleeping in AND
late-night dancing or gambling and still have a lot of social dancing
time and the various sights, scenes and restaurants of Las Vegas.
Several workshops were also held at accomodating times for those wanting
to work on their dancing.

Chief Judge Jackie Ford oversaw the judging staff consisting of Robert
Cordoba, Deborah Szekely, Stan Jaquish, Kyle Redd, Sarah Vann Drake,
Cathy Tigges, Ellen Colonna, Donnie Carl, Carlito Rofoli, and Mark
Schueffele.

The contest winners are as follows:

Novice Jack & Jill:
1st Place: Brick Robbins (San Deigo) & Janice Salmon (Fountain
Valley, CA)
2nd Place: Lonnie Mitchell (Phoenix) & Sara Goin (Las Vegas)
3rd Place: Buch Ross (Phoenix) & Agnes Bautista (Cerritos, CA)

Masters Jack & Jill:
1st Place: Robert Bryant (Phoenix) & Susan Perla (NYC, NY)
2nd Place: Ron Mathis (Tarpon Springs, FL) & Peggy Allen (Phoenix)
3rd Place: Mark Endo (Fair Oaks, CA) & Virginia Nunez (Las Vegas, NV)

Adanced Jack & Jill:
1st Place: Eric Myers (Huntington Beach, CA) & Brenda Koster
(Sacramento)

I'm happy to endorse this event. We had a great time. Not many attended the
reincarnation, but like the mythical Phoenix (7/4), the event could rise
from the desert. Las Vegas is a great place to host a WCS event.

Thanks to the Duncans for putting on the event. Thanks to Steve Salazar for

The Sahara Hotel isn't one of the new meta-hotels on the southern Strip, but
it was perfectly adequate. The food and service was excellent. The ballroom
was fine for the first event, but a hotel with a larger ballroom will be
essential.

We're looking forward to returning next year. (Maybe I'll find the money I
lost.)

Thanks for mentioning Steve Salazar's music (nice variety!!!). I even got to
dance a few. Sorry, Steve, that I'd forgotten to mention you in my haste!
