We were recently at an "Oldies" dinner/dance featuring music of the 50's &
60's.
Most of the attendees didn't dance, and we had a beautiful floor to
ourselves. We managed to do a quickstep to one fast rock-and-roll number, and
some swing to others.
The DJ had a huge collection, and could find anything by title (but not type)
of music.
Can anyone suggest titles (and artists) from the 50's-60's pop-tune list that
we can request for a tango, waltz (other than the Tennesse Waltz which he
played -- deadly slow). cha-cha, rumba, etc??
We're attending a similar fund-raising dance on Apr. 25.
Thanks for you're help.

A few that I remember. Try Hernando's Hideaway for a Tango. Tequila and
Papa Loves Mambo for a mambo. For a waltz, try Moon River, Somewhere My
Love, Let Me Go Lover, Allegheny Moon and Tammy. For cha cha try Cherry
Pink and Apple Blossom White and Patricia (I think there was a version of
Tea For Two done then also). There might also have been a version of
Besame Mucho (Tango) done then.

Both recorded (late 50s?) by Perez Prado.

If your DJ has the original 1963 recording of Watermellon Man
(sorry, forgot the artist name), that's also a fabulous chacha.
Beware of imitations: there have been zillions of remakes of
this song.

Actually, Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White hit the
charts in 1955.

TANGOS; Try Hernando's Hideawy, or do your tango, (Especially Arg) to
Under The Boardwalk or up on the roof.

You'd be surprised what music you can do a tango step to. have
fun!!!!!!!
