What is the range in beats per minute (tempo) of most Swing Music. Specifically I am interested in the bpm or range of bpm for Lindy Hop?

Thanks!

Most Lindy Hop dancers feel comfortable at 130 to 160 beats per minute....
Not many can dance cleanly as fast as Whitey's Lindy Hoppers did in
Hellzapoppin, for example...in excess of 200bpm!

I like your taste in bpm. Swingout Northwest? Although we have local
dancers who think lindy bpm starts at 160, but then again, they prefer to
charleston and shag all the time.

And even those who can are often quick to point out that those tempos are for
performance and/or competition and not for normal social dancing.

In general 130's would be your low range and 200+ would be your high range.
You would want most of the music to be mid-tempo. There's an interesting
article at www.dancing.org [advice to bands or dj] that presents one
passionate perspective.

Like Rayned and Jenna pointed out there is a large variety
available to dance to. Alot will depend on the dancers
level and there preference. I prefer music between 160-180bpm
as ideal, though I enjoy getting a couple of slower more
sultry songs (146bpm) and some real barn-burners (+220) in
the course of the night.

Actually, I just counted, and to my disbelief they danced to **320 BPM**
IN HELLZAPOPPIN'!!! I counted two separate times because I thought I
screwed up the first time! I am still amazed whenever I watch it, and
I've seen it about 25 times. I read in an interview with Frankie
Manning that they had to do that routine over and over again for TWO
DAYS so the cameramen could get the best shots and angles! I wouldn't
even be able to hold that up for 10 seconds, let alone two days!
