I have just returned from a great week of dancing in Blackpool.
For those interested, here are the results of this year's
British Open Championships.
First a quick summary:
The Latin Rising Stars Pro competition was won by Allan Tornsberg and Vibeke
Toft from Denmark who danced for the first time as Professionals. Also the
Modern Rising Stars comp was won by the 'first-timers' Augusto Schiavo and
Cateria Arzenton from Italy. They even reached the finals in the main
competition.
John and Nadia Eftedal from Norway won the Pro Latin Championship, with last
years winners Sammy Stopford and Barbara McColl from England placing second.
In the Modern (standard) section John Wood and Anne Lewis won the competition
by winning three dances and Marcus and Karen Hilton winning the Quickstep and
placing second in the other dances. The Sinkinsons placed third and the
Tremblays fourth, as last year.
The Amateur Latin Championship was won by the Germans Paul Killick and Inga
Haas. Second were Paul Green and Karen Rufus from Australia.
The quality of the Senior Latin Championship is improving from every year.
This year it was won by Wolfram and Eva-Maria Galke from Germany who made
this their last competition. Second were Yoichi and Sachiko Mochizuki from
Japan who also won the Senior Modern Championship.
As Schiavo/Arzenton have turned Pro there was no clear favourite for the
Amateur Modern Championship. It was won by Timothy Howson and Joanne Bolton.
Jens Werner and Charlotte Joergensen from Denmark placed second and the winners
of last year's 'under 21' competition, Christopher Hawkins and Hazel Newberry
from London placed 5th. This years 'under 21' competition was won by
William and Alesandra Pino from Italy who reached the semifinals in the main
championship.
Here are the results of the finals of all the competions in the chronological
order of the events. As most of the readers of this newsgroup/mailing list are
from America I have in some events added comments about the success of
American couples.
