Hello,

I have a long-shot request. My boss says he saw a while back a
Dick Tracy comic with the quote: "He who controls magnetism controls
the universe." or something to that effect.

If anyone out there happens to know where I could find this issue
of Dick Tracy (or even just what issue it was in!), I would appreciate
it.

Please e-mail me, as I am not a regular reader of this newsgroup.

Thanks in advance,

Peter

"The nation that controls magnetism will control the universe." This was the
slogan Diet Smith Enterprises used to promote its Atomic Space Coupe, which was
introduced in the "52 Gang" storyline in "Dick Tracy" and which then appeared
throughout the '60s. In the Sunday strips, a box containing the slogan usually
appeared in a panel with the Space Coupe.

I can't give a specific issue off the top of my head, but it was certainly in
*at least* one of the last Blackthorne issues of DICK TRACY WEEKLY, say #s
93-99, and possibly earlier. The covers say things about the Space Coupe or
the Moon or whatever. I'll try to remember to dig up a specific issue #
tonight.

Done, but I've also sent a copy of this to r.a.c., as my Good Deed for the Day.
:-)

Once again, netters, if anyone has *any* information on the circumstances of
Blackthorne's ceasing publication of TRACY, I'd like to hear it.

I can't tell you the issue, but that has *got* to be in reference to Diet
Smith; in fact, it's probably said by him. So it would have to be no
earlier than in the mid-to-late 50s.

"Because I live in the hearts and minds of everyone
who believes in TRUTH, JUSTICE and THE AMERICAN
WAY. And that is bigger than you. Bigger than
anyone who tries to make me in their own image."

This was in the strip practically every *week* when I was growing up
(60s). Just about everytime the magnetic air car (tm) or the magnetic
space coupe (tm) appeared, which was often.

Well, I paged through all the pertinent issues of DTWEEKLY last night, starting
with the intro of the Coupe circa #89, and I couldn't find a single use of the
slogan. Sheesh. It's possible it exists in someone's dialogue balloon, but I
didn't notice any captions using it. Sorry.

If I am not mistaken this quote was from Diet Smith in the old
newspaper strip. This was the principle that he used to meet
the moon people (ie Moon Maid).
