Hello one and all. I just read on another newsgroup how another
newsgroup besides that one is starting a thread to let people get to
know one another better. It involves filling out a short bio of
yourself. This could be a great way for newbies, lurkers and racx dinos
to learn more about the people who share this newsgroup. Who knows, we
could possibly even learn the real names of Nyx, Vorpral, Lone
Capitalist and the other aliased posters that frequent here. I have made
a short list of questions to begin with, and will then answer them
myself in a follow-up post. Please feel free to add to this list, but at
least take a moment and tell us more about yourself. Thanks!

All right....I'll be a conformist. Just this once though..

Oh...to put people to rest...
I'm a male, I've been a male for the past 19 and a half years or so.
I plan to stay that way for a while at least.

Name:
Hosun Lee (it's pronounced HO - SUN, like the generic
Santa Claus laughter, followed by that big yellow
thing in the sky. It's not Ho-Soon, Sung-Ho, Ho-San,
Hozeon (or Hose-on), Ho, or any other combination.
I have NO bloody idea how it manages to be
mispronounced by so many people.)

Occupation:
Student, Syracuse University. Dual majoring in Political Science
and Information Management Technology.

Document maintainer at the SyraCWIS Project. (I take text files
concering Syracuse and put them on a gopher server, as well as
making html documents.)

Computer/Multimedia Consultant at the International Exploratorium.

Place of Birth:
Seoul, Korea. (You can mispronounce this if you want, I don't care.)

Date of birth:
07/24/75, or so I'm told. I'm taking my parents' word on this, and
since they have lied to me before, I won't be held accountable if
this is false.

Marital Status:
Pathetically single.

Favorite Line(s):
"Oh, did I tell you that I almost died this weekend?"
"Stop sending me so much e-mail!"
"My god, you have inifinite amount of free time!"
"WALK?!?! Do you know how many calories that takes??!?"
"RIDE MY BIKE?!?!? What's wrong with a car? Do you people
have a problem with the concept of gasoline-powered engines?"

What do you spend money on?:

Lunches at Win Hope, comic books (bet you never saw THAT coming),
Tropicana brand orange juice NOT from concentrate, Puffs Plus
WITH Aloe, paperbacks, movie tickets. Presents for people whose
affections I try to buy.

Prized toys:
My computer, my photos of my friends, my home page and my
calculator/memo-pad/phone-book wrist watch. Oh yeah, and my
remote-control watch (because it's fun turning off my friends'
tv sets with a watch, since they never realize it's me doing
it).

Prized comics:
Flash #79? I think that's it...the finale to the 'Return of Barry
Allan' storyline. Power Pack #27 (Power Pack vs. the Marauders!
Yaaaay!)

Physical attributes:
6'2, black hair, formerly long, not closely cropped, black eyes,
glasses, thin, and...aww hell...gimme break, I'm an oriental...I
look like EVERY other oriental. With the exception of most females.

How long have you been reading RACX?

I really don't want to say Oct. 1994, because everyone's said that.
So I won't, because that's not true. Instead, I'll say Oct. 1993.
So that's what...a year and a half or so? (although I didn't start
being really witty until several months after that)

Bad habits:
Setting my alarm clock two hours before I actually need to wake up,
and waking up three hours after that. Trying to hurt my roommate.
Trying to microwave my roommate's student ID (doesn't work..those
things are indestructible!!). Buying comic books. Trying to make
my roommate's life a living hell. Being incredibly messy, it's
not even funny...I am a total slob. Trying to prove that everyone
should bow down to me and admit total defeat. Trying to destroy
my roommate.

Favorite musical artists:
Johann Pachelbel, Peter Cetera, Weird Al Yankovic, Roxette,
John Secada, Counting Crows, The Cranberries, Toad the Wet
Sprocket, Stan Bush, Chesney Hawkes (so what if he only released one
album and two singles? Gimme a break...sniffle..he's got a cool
accent).

Favorite X-related characters:
Forbush Man, Adam-X, Sunspot, Havok, Multiple Man, X-Man, Cable.

Yes! I totally agree. I think UXM #226 was Claremont's way of saying
"goodbye" to the X-Men because he knew BOB was coming, bringing all sorts of
sloppy editor's fingerprints with him. I always look at the series as having
ended in Dallas (even though the battle with the Adversary wasn't totally
great)...Claremont knew the book was slipping, and was headed for an even
bigger fall from grace, and that was his way of letting fans have a
well-written, complete ending. UXM 210 was the last in a perfect run,
but 226 was the last perfect issue. Everything since, IMO, is apocryphal.

Six feet and not quite one inch, tanned Filipino skin, brown eyes (my

Someone brought to my attention the fact that I didn't mention Skippy
in my mini-bio. The reason for that is, well, Skippy is more of a force
than a person. It's like the Phoenix Force. So if there was a category
for "Favorite Cosmic Entity," then Skippy would have been there. That's
why Skippy can be Rogue, the third Summers brother, and Bishop's real
name...all at once.

I've finished lectures, I'm tired, hungry, and bored, so what the hey,
the worst this could be is embarrassing.

Name: Nigel Secomb

Occupation: Student, and occassional taxi driver or photographer (I'm paying
my own way through uni and need to eat so I wasn't picky).

Place of Birth: Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia

Date of birth: 11/03/70 (25 y.o. comes in about a week, it's so depressing)

Marital Status: Single (god dammit)

Favorite Line(s): "Reaganomics: Call whatever you hit the target" from a
paper editorial; and
"Oh, you've gained me all of three seconds Nathan, however
will I spend them wisely" by Domino. Um, actually there are
quite a few X-force one liners that I like.

What do you spend money on?: Rent, food, comics and RPG's.

Prized toys: A "Santa Bear" because it's always been there through the tough
times.

Prized comics: My Wolverine collection, and the Executioners Song TPB.

Physical attributes: 6'3", short light brown hair, Blue eyes, a bit over
200lbs I think (93kg), with broad shoulders and an extra dose of
freckles.

How long have you been reading RACX? About three years, but have only
really become involved in the last 6 months.

Bad habits: Being contradictory (no I'm not); trusting people too easily;
having a desire to hit people over the head with a baseball bat when
they really start to annoy me.

Favorite musical artists: Bon Jovi, Noiseworks, Roxette, Phill Collins, and
of course INXS.

Favorite X-related characters: Wolverine, Cable, Shatterstar, Domino,
Deadpool, Gambit (most of the time), and Banshee is getting there.

Most loathed X-related characters: None really, but some of those F*&^%g
writers get really annoying and stuff the characters around.

Sigh.

So, I've been pretty much away for a while (no, I'm not back yet :P)...
well, a few days, anyway. And what do I come back to but a big "Let's get
to know each other better" thread. <sigh> Well, here goes.

Well, depends on how technical you want to get. If you mean "Married or
not?" the answer is: "Not". If you mean "Involved or not?" The answer is:
"I was until bloody last Saturday". And, if you mean "Interested in
getting a little *personal* baby?" the answer is "Hell no. No offense, but
you know, I'm just out of a thing, and all." Finally, if you mean "Got an
eye on someone or not?" the answer is "Well, yeah, but you wouldn't know
him."

> What do you spend money on?:
Ooooh, salable items. Mostly CD's. And CD cases, which, btw should NOT be
costing $40 a pop for a binder with plastic pouches. <sigh>

Do electronics count? If so, my new CD player, and my personal Beast, the
computer here.

Early runs of: The new X-Men; New Teen Titans; Wonder Woman (2nd series).
Plus: Bone, Sandman, Hellblazer, Swamp Thing

a while since I weighed myself.)

> How long have you been reading RACX?

4 months?

> Bad habits:
Reading comics. Bad for my wallet. <sigh> Staying up until noon when I
have to go somewhere at 2. Going for more than a day without eating, just
because I forget to. Not breathing on occasion, when I'm thinking hard.
Not a good thing to do. I wouldn't recommend it.

I am too lazy to do anything other than use the template, too stupid to think
of one of my own, and too vain not to contribute to this thread. So here
it is.

>> Name: Charlie Ball

>> Occupation:

PhD student, aromatherapist, sometime nude model.

>> Place of Birth:

Some say I was found in a wicker basket, washed up in bulrushes on the Nile.
Some say I was created from leftovers by Dr. Frankenstein's insane, moronic
assistant Igor while the boss was away.
Some say I am the result of a weird and frightening experiment by unimaginable
alien intelligences.
Some say I came to be with the Universe, pulsing at the centre of existence
to the sound of a lone piper.

Me mum says I was born in Wigan, though.

>> Date of birth:

20/9/70

>> Marital Status:

Serious involvement.

>> Favorite Line(s):

"Be bloody, bold and resolute. Laugh to scorn the power of man, for none
of woman born can harm Macbeth."
"Despair thy charms! And tell the angel that thou still dost serve - Macbeth
was from his mother's womb untimely ripp'd!"

"I'm sorry? I don't speak Fascist."

"I called Superman an asshole once, but I don't think he heard me."

"On the question of whether it is better to be loved or feared, the wise prince
will consider that to be loved depends largely on the thoughts of others,
and will build on that which he himself controls."

Admiration : an acknowledgement of another's resemblence to ourselves.

"You know who runs this country? BASTARDS!!! That's who!"

"And we took all the puffs and the weirdos and the perverts and the girls and
the jessies and all the people who we hated, and we shoved them down south,
and we called them the English and we said "Stay there, and don't move! We'll
come back when we want to give you a good kicking!""

"He goes to bed thinking of ways to fiddle 10 more pounds in his expenses.
Me, I go to bed thinking of all the reasons why : I Am The Greatest."

"And I say well, God, it's like this : It might be arrogance or
just appalling taste - I'd rather use my pain than let it all go to
waste/ on some old God who tells me what I want to hear/ as if
I cannot tell obedience from fear/ I want to take my pleasures where and how
I will/ be they disgraceful or distateful or distilled/ and frankly, life
has more appeal/ without a driver who's asleep behind the wheel."
And then God decides he's taken quite enough/ of all this aetheistic tosh
I'm spouting off/and so he calls his favourite angel choir/to sing of
times when men were filled with Christian fire/but over-zealous angel
flap their wings too fast/ and cause the wind to blow and turn the wheel at
last/ and so I find myself back on solid ground/......and then I hear
a voice saying..........."Don't look down.."

"Look for the good in others, and they'll see the good in you."

"Do not go gentle into that good night.......(etc)"

"Through me is the way into the doleful city......(etc)"

"Charlie. You're paranoid and overdramatic."

"You're the man my mother warned me about. Good."

And several others, none of which I intend to attribute, as, like I said,
I'm lazy.

>> What do you spend money on?:

Pints and pints of alcohol. Wine. Records. Books, travellers cheques for
my alleged incessant foreign freebie.

>> Prized toys:

The World. The souls of humanity. People's perceptions of the everyday world.

>> Prized comics:

X-Men 100-137.

>> Physical attributes:

Head, arms, legs, body, eyes.
All in all, it gets to about 5'11. Eyes : green. hair - depends on my mood
(usually red-brown.) I've got cheekbones and dimples too, so there. I know
how to use them, so there twice. People have paid me to remove my clothes.
This speaks for itself. Or does it?

>> How long have you been reading RACX?

Since Easter '93. Posting since I don't know, but a while later.

>> Bad habits:

Ha ha ha ha! Irrelevance, serial monogamy, loquaciousness, fibbing,
causing those around me to slowly become more and more ridiculous in
some strange kind of empathy, frothing in primal slime in sunken weed-covered
cities with angles of no human construction, invading peaceful democracies,
building lasers and targetting favoured household pets, and, here's the
clincher : NOT ANSWERING E-MAIL THROUGH ABSENT-MINDEDNESS (many, many
xbook denizens all now go -"yes! we know, you bastard!")
Worshipping my Dread Lord And Master Paul O'Brien, insufficiency of
inhibitions - tricky if you're English.

Oh, and loads and loads of others too. You'd be surprised. No, you probably
wouldn't be.

>> Favorite musical artists:
The Chills. Into Paradise. A House. Divine Comedy. Fatima Mansions.
Bailter Space. Snapper. Trans-Global Underground....er....the Wedding Present.
Lots of other bands. Lots and lots of other ones on top of that.

>> Favorite X-related characters:

Jamie Madrox. Avalanche. Pyro. Banshee. Nightcrawler.

And that's your lot.

Meat Loaf, Jim Stienman as a song-writer, and Billy Joel. Also Paul McCartney,

favorite voise of all time. Hmmmm. Have I left anyone out?

Silver Surfer. (heh. I know. But i really like the guy) Synch and Jubilee
as buddies are creeping on here. Same with Adam X. Should Forge, Havok and
Quicksilver start getting competant writing, them, too.

Actually, you're both right. Both movies used the quote. However, Better Off
Dead came out far earlier, like in 1983, I think. For those of you who
haven't seen it, by all means go. It stars John Cusack, as Lane Meyer, a high
school skiing star, who gets dumped by his high school sweetheart. He looks
for love, while at the same time trying to retain some dignity. Also features
Curtis Armstrong.

I just answered the form quickly. But Charlie Ball gives us a
dictionary of quotations:

>>> Favorite Line(s):

>of woman born can harm Macbeth."
>"Despair thy charms! And tell the angel that thou still dost serve - Macbeth
>was from his mother's womb untimely ripp'd!"

I think you'll find Macduff was from his mother's womb untimely
ripped. The point being that the prophecy says that Macbeth can't
be killed by any man of woman born, but that Macduff can kill him
because he was born by Caesarian section.

>"I called Superman an asshole once, but I don't think he heard me."

That looks familiar. Where have I seen it before?

>"And we took all the puffs and the weirdos and the perverts and the girls and
>the jessies and all the people who we hated, and we shoved them down south,
>and we called them the English and we said "Stay there, and don't move! We'll
>come back when we want to give you a good kicking!""

The mad Scottish writer from "Absolutely", of course. Great show,
whose memory has been sadly defaced by Gordon Kennedy's inexplicable
decision to do "The National Lottery Live."

>"He goes to bed thinking of ways to fiddle 10 more pounds in his expenses.
>Me, I go to bed thinking of all the reasons why : I Am The Greatest."

A-House, "I Am The Greatest."

Dunno. But if we're going for really good song lyrics, how
about this:

"She came to me in a search for knowledge
She studied sculpture at St. Martin's College
That's where I
Caught her eye.
She told me that her dad was loaded.
I said, "In that case, I'll have another Coca cola."
She said, "Fine."
And in thirty seconds time,
She said, "I want to live with common people.
I want to do whatever common people do.
I want to be with common people.
I want to sleep with common people like you."
And what else could I do?
I said, "I'll see what I can do...""

(Pulp, "Common People." You can't get much more obscure than
quoting songs that haven't been recorded yet.)

>"Charlie. You're paranoid and overdramatic."

>"You're the man my mother warned me about. Good."

I can imagine these, actually.

Thanks, Nate. Was about 12 years and a much, much funnier movie. I
first heard the line while viewing a trailer before the movie
"American Flyers." I couldn't stop laughing for the first 5 minutes
of the movie. A very valuable part of my video collection.

At that point, Emilio hadn't even been seen in the Breakfast Club,
and the Brat Pack was just forming. (I think 16 candles was out,
but I'm not sure).

Better Off Dead also starred David Ogen Stiers (from MASH fame),
and a bunch of other recognizable actors whose names I can't remember.
Check it out (and it's sister movie, One Crazy Summer (with John
Cusack and Demi Moore)).

Comics relevance - none - I wasn't reading comics at the time -
didn't start until a couple of years later.

Which I am so very pround to say I missed. I was here, but my dad who is a
lurker over on alt.fan.pratchett had got fed up with getting his FAQ every
month. So he consideratly set *both* our killfiles to remove FAQs. It
took a while for me to realise and sort it out, and by the time I had, it was
all over.

For obvious reasons I'm a great believer in the luck of the Irish.

Ok. This is not Todd McFarlane and his little group of cronies :) They
are a band out of Colorado, I believe, who have become quite popular, esp. on
the radio station I listen to. Their two albums are "Sister Sweetly" and
"Stratagem". Good albums, good songs (e.g - Broken Hearted Savior,
Bittersweet, etc) They're not bad. If you want though, I know that Dave
Barry and Stephan King and a few others have their own band of cronies to
play with. They're not really good as I recall, but hey, it's probably fun
to watch and listen too :)

Odd thing. When I first showed up in Xbooks (round about end of
November), the first post I read was by Nyx (probably because of the
cool sounding nom de plume). My first reaction was, "My, she must be,
like, one of the longtime dinosaur heavy hitters round these parts.
Don't anger her." (Wise thought anyway.)

Now, it turns out that she probably only beat me here by a week and a
half...man, do I feel stupid...:)

I have been, and you would believe how monstrous it is. Ok you probably
can believe, but it still is rather large. When I get some free time, I'll
probably make a web page out of it all. But that probably won't be for a
while.

I'd have to classify that as a bad habit. Um, spending all my money on comics
when I need it for food or laundry or other paltry concerns like that. That's
probably a bad habit, too. Sleeping too much. Skipping classes 'cause I don't
feel like going. Um, and generally being a pervert. Hmm, I probably shouldn't
cop to that one. Oh well, it's not like I'm ever going to meet any of you
