Yep.
Thanks for the addition.

I got him alternating strips with Wm. Brown on Mixed Singles (1972-75)
and then working solo on Boomer (1975-81).

Then, in 1999, he joined with Brown again in a joint effort on the
Paradigm syndicate's "Warp Wilson"; whether that ever got into
newspapers I wouldn't know.

I also have a note saying he was artist on "small society" from
1985 - ????. Does anyone know if that is right.

The link also shows him being a magazine cartoonist.

Still ongoing, although I can't imagine any kids having the patience to
stick with it at its 2-comic-book-page-per-week schedule.

Thanks for the link to my Arriola write-up.

I don't think Ollie Johnston ever did a comic strip, but surely deserves a
mention in this thread.

Disney animator, last of Walt's "Nine Old Men," co-author of the great book
"The Illusion of Life."

October 31, 1912-April 14, 2008.

Actually started on December 31, 2001 (according to book "Big, Hairy
Noses")

I had that start date in my record book,
but then on Janz' salcomic site it says it
started on January 6, 2002.
http://www.salcomic.com/about_janz.html

That coupled with the 2003 Susanna McLeod profile
of Matt Janz that claims a start date of January 2002
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/cartoonists/103981
and the (occasionally reliable) Wikipedia article on the strip
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_of_the_Gene_Pool
along with Eric Agena's date of debut
http://www.comicstripfan.com/newspaper/o/outofthegenepool.htm
not to mention the Suzanne Tobin "Comics: Meet the Artist" 2002
interview that said it had "been syndicated just since January"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/liveonline/02/style/comics031502.htm
convinced me to go with the January 6, 2002 date.

Though your source confirms an November 19, 2001 item in
Editor and Publisher that claimed the strip "will be launched Dec.
31."
I think The Washington Post ran it from the very beginning
but I don't have access to ProQuest to check that date.

You may notice that I sometimes veer from a strict
comic strip creator designation, notably with magazine cartoonists.

My understanding is that UPS now offers this Sunday feature
from the beginning to any paper that wanted to start it after
its official January 6 debut date.
Here's the Concord Monitor starting it in the middle of the year:
http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080704/REPOSITORY/807040314

I guess they(UPS) are no longer soliciting new manga
strips from Tokyopop?

It's like at the Oscars where they start showing the pictures of the
people who died over the year. Some of the them the audience never
heard of, some they thought died like ten years ago, and others they
really knew.

It seems that there was one more 2008 cartoonist death that was not reported. Allan Holtz mentioned it in yesterday's Strippers Guide post.

DR. MICHAEL ANTHONY PETTI

Thank you for adding this to the thread.

Dr. Guy Bennett samples at The Fabulous Fifties:
http://allthingsger.blogspot.com/search?q=bennett

Dr. Petti also created and wrote the syndicated
"Health Capsules" panel from 1961 - 2002.
