Does anyone else out there think that Robotman=99by Jim Meddick is the
funniest comic strip EVER? My local newspaper doesn't carry Robotman=99
as a daily, but, carries it on the weekend, and I visit the Robotman=99
website at:
www.unitedmedia.com/comics/robotman
so I can read the dailies. This comic strip is so underrated. Not very
many people talk about it, and there won't even be a Robotman=99 book
until this fall, even though the strip has been running for more than a
decade. If you haven't read Robotman=99, I beg you to read it, either at
the website or in the newspaper, and I hope that you agree.

P.S. No, I am not in any way affiliated with Robotman=99, I am just a
major fan who is unhappy because there is no books/cartoons/other
merchandise for Robotman=99 while other comics that aren't nearly as
funny(i.e. Dilbert, Peanuts) have overpriced dolls and books at every
corner.

I completely agree. Robotman may be the best strip out there in terms of
being consistently funny, inventive and visually engaging/well-drawn. I'm
surprised that it doesn't run in NYC's papers and I have to read it off
the web-site as well. I'll be buying the book when it comes out. I hope
it's a very large volume!

Yay, I'm glad that somebody mentioned Robotman. It's one of my favorite
strips. I'm surprised that it's never mentioned on that newsgroup.
Fortunatly my newspaper does carry it. So I get to read it. As somebody
said it is probably one of the most underrated strips out there. I'm really
glad that they're comming out with a Robotman book. I would like to see
some of the earlier strips from the 80's as well. If you've never read it I
enthuastically encourage you to do so.

I'll add my voice to the chorus of praise - Robotman is my personal
favorite. In my opinion it was a "pretty decent" strip for quite some
time, but since he dropped the Milde family in favor of Monty it has
quickly become one of the funniest strips I've read. I love the slightly
paranoid streak in Meddick's humour and his obvious fondness for various
forms of junk culture. And the artwork is great. I find it strange that
it doesn't get more attention. Maybe it's an acquired taste...?

FYI, there are two Robotman collections out there but they're pretty old
and might be hard to find: "Robotman" (published 1986 by Ravette,
featuring the very earliest material), and "Cyberpunk Trek" (1990 by
Topper Books, with various episodes from 1987-89).

Don't forget "Robotman Takes Off". What is the name of the new book? I

According to Amazon books (www.amazon.com), the new Robotman book will
be out this september, and it's called "Primary Crullers:A Robotman
Book".

I think there's another collection in the middle there (i.e. Cyberpunktrek
is the third...).

I was living in a city that didn't have R-Man when the change
was made. Originally, he was a creature visiting from another planet,
living with the family, and the point of view was his view
of human foibles. Now, per the official web site, he
was constructed by Monty.

I've often wondered: was there a rationale stated in the strip, for
the change?

(Like, how did Eek and Meek go from being mice to being people? --
I used to worry about that, too?)

At the time, Robotman just moved out and found himself a roommate, which
was Monty. Monty was originally written as an alien in human form (or
am I the only one who remembers Monty's parents as lava lamps?), but
that was rewritten. There was a series of strips within the last year
that "explained" all the rewrites.

I seem to remember that one of the strips had to do with some parody of
"the X-Files" in which they were investigating the disappearance of the
Milde family.

Sometimes I think that Olga may be the elder Milde Brother sans shades
and butched up. (Or maybe she's the comic incarnation of that guy who
does late-night infomercials for his exercise regimen)

But I digress...

Thank you!!
(I guess the word "rationale" was a little too strong.)
