Stupid mistakes you can correct!
So called 'stock cars' have had nothing to do with anything you or I can
buy for about 20 years now. They hide it with the faux painted-on
headlights and grilles and such, but for the past couple of years, they
all even use the same bodies. They are purpose-built, and just happen to
be sponsored by car companies. Not at all like the old days, when you
buy something with some interchangeable parts down at the dealer, and
the factory had to sell so many cars of a certain shape before they
could race them.

A point.
Like this?
Do you refer to what they term (at a racetrack
not too far from me) "harness racing?"
Oh, I daresay that even though sanctioned horse-and-buggy races (like
harness racing) have niche popularity, the modern totals will likely
never approach the informal race numbers of a hundred-plus years ago.
Any time you had 2 young men on a country road without grownups around,
a race likely ensued. Just like young men and motor vehicles today, or
when you put a 2-year-old next to a ladder - they WILL try to climb it.
They can't help it. It is in the hardwiring.
