As Brooke explained to this group about seven years ago:
"After that [a different submission to the syndicates]
was waved away by all the syndicates, I created a thoroughly insane
strip
entitled "Wahoo Terminal," the after effects of which have found form
in
Thorax. Wahoo Terminal had nothing to do with reality (for instance,
a
peripheral character was a pet dinosaur named Fluffy who specialized
in
singing Broadway show tunes, but with great difficulty because of the
size
of her teeth). This strip excited interest, but also had no takers."
Scroll through his blog will you will come across
quite a few of these strips.
Here Brooke presents the first one he did of W.T.:

Hm. Well, I like the second and third strips of that page.
In fact, if the second hasn't been used as a throwaway gag at some
point in '9 Chickweed Lane' then McEldowney has more self-control
than I'd have thought. The first seems like too routine a punch line,
and the fourth seems sloppily constructed. I get the joke he was
going for, but the setup was too much for the punch line.
