Is Tina's Groove ending?
Today's (June 18) strip pretty much draws us a picture.
https://comicskingdom.com/tina-s-groove/2017-06-18

Another week or two it seems.

One more Sunday, a week or two of dailies?

The signs, literally, are there.

If things are true, we could have the first 2 newspaper comic strips ending in the 2017 year in the June-July 2017 period: Tina's Groove and (maybe) Chuckle Bros.

Now why doesn't in recent years daily rerun mode/mostly first run Sunday mode comic strips Get Fuzzy and Doonesbury announce their own strip ending fates??

Today Rina Piccolo SIGNS onto Rhymes With Orange
as Hilary B. Price's co-collaborator
https://comicskingdom.com/rhymes-with-orange/2017-06-19
after years of being a gagwriter for the strip.

Hilary announces the change on Twitter:
"Happy news! Today@RinaPiccolo officially joins
me as co-collaborator @ Rhymes W/ Orange.
It's a BLAST working w her!"

Now that Rina P. Is permament co-working with Hillary Price on Rhymes With Orange, is Rina still one of the rotating Six Chix?

Any word from King Features on the Tina's Groove farewell/ending date?

Too bad. The last couple of months of Tina have been greatly entertaining!

Rina Piccolo on her blog today:
"Every now and then, it happens. You reach a point in
your career at which big decisions need to be made, a
sort of crossroads, I guess you’d call it. This point
came to me about two years ago."

Rina discusses her decision to accept Hilary Price's offer
to join Hilary "in drawing and writing" Rhymes With Orange;
noting "that the collaborative cartoons are the dailies,
and that Hilary alone remains the creator of the Sundays."

Rina also acknowledges that Tina's Groove will end.
"...in order for me to take part in Rhymes With Orange...
I could no longer continue to work on Tina’s Groove."

Though she did not mention when the strip will end.
"In the days ahead, I will write more about
the upcoming ending of Tina’s Groove."

My guess for the final Tina's Groove strip episode could be in July 2017 or August 2017.

The Post-Dispatch runs the daily, so we'll have to see what they choose for a replacement.

Tina is closing up shop this week

Rina says farewell to Tina in her blog

Speculating the final daily strip for Tina's Groove is July 1, 2017 and the final Sunday strip for Tina's Groove is July 2, 2017.

I think last Sunday was the last for those. The one before had "Penultimate" as one of the "signs".

Not much speculating since Rina says in the above link that.
"The last week of the strip begins today,
Monday June 26th, and runs to Saturday July 1st."
and
"There are two Sundays that will appear as 'normal'
strips in that they do not refer to THE END.
These will run on June 25th, and July 2nd"

> I think last Sunday was the last for those.
> The one before had "Penultimate" as one of the "signs".

In the above link Rina also explains that hiccup:
"[The June 18 page] did not turn out to be the penultimate
Sunday. At the time, I thought it would be, but I learned
later, after it was too late to pull it, that there were 2
more Sunday strips to go before the end!"

I just saw the final July 1, 2017 Tina's Groove daily strip with a goodbye message from Rina Picollo, I bet the July 2, 2017 final Sunday Tina's Groove strip will be like this...

BTW with Rina now officially joining "Rhymes With Orange", I'd like to welcome Rina to the Tampa Bay Times family. Neither the Times nor the Tribune carried "Tina's Groove" or "Six Chix" (and to think there's a chance we wouldn't even get "Rhymes With Orange" had the Tribune not sacrificed Daily Doonesbury repeats three years ago).

From last week is an interview with
Hilary B. Price and Rina Piccolo about
their Rhymes With Orange collaboration.

Excerpt:
Question: How do the two of you work together?
What’s this process and collaboration like?

HILARY: Rina and I collaborate on the gags Monday through Saturday,
and she renders them in my style. I do the Sundays.

Rina: The actual weekly process works like this:
I write a bunch of ideas for dailies and loosely sketch them out.
Hilary then goes over them and often takes on the weak ones and
suggests ways to make them stronger. We’ll have a back-and-forth
about some of the ideas – again, we’ll riff on them, and often,
Hilary will make some of them tighter. Together we choose the
ones that will get a green light. Then every week I choose six
from my pool of green-lighted ones to ink for that week. And then
the process begins again. Hilary exclusively writes and draws the
Sunday. Also, Rhymes With Orange has a distinct voice, and many
times I tend to stray from it – Hilary will often re-write some
of my ideas to be more in line with the Rhymes with Orange style.

Read the entire interview at
http://smashpages.net/2018/01/10/smash-pages-qa-hilary-price-and-rina-piccolo/

So what they started doing last year on Rhymes With Orange,
is what Dan Piraro and Wayno started doing this year on Bizarro.

"[Rina] renders [the dailies] in my style."

And she's doing a good job of that!

I was thinking Rina gags and Hilary art for the dailies.
