I think the one I'm thinking of is that old, anyway. Maybe even from the 1970s. (The comic ended in 2012. Bill Rechin, the co-creator, died in 2011.)

So anyway, all I remember is that one man is asking another man, irritably: "where's this? Where's that?" The other says things like "I needed it for a hole in my boot." Finally, the first man says "I apologize."

Another, which I remember better, was a Sunday strip. It's been very dry, and one man says "dust off my tongue, will ya." The other man spots a rain cloud and shrieks. Everyone races to put out all the buckets there are. But the cloud only rains in one spot - far away. A man yells "who NEEDS your water, you stupid cloud!" Then comes a cry of "FIRE in the fort!"

I sort of remember that strip. I can't help with the specific comic strips but Comics Kingdom does have the original Crock strip on line.

And Amazon or Half Price Books should be able to find the old paperbacks.

Yes. “Crock” has remained in reruns on Comics Kingdom from right after
the strip ended.
