Last year someone posted the results from the 1988 rec.arts.comics poll
of best comics to rec.arts.comics.misc, which I enjoyed. With the
seeming demise of the Squiddies I thought I would take the opportunity
to run the same categories from that poll in the comics groups and see
what the concensus is for the best books from last year. I'll run this
until Jan. 11, 2007 at 12:01 EST. All votes posted to the groups (or to
my e-mail address below if you prefer) by that time will be tabulated,
and I'll try to run the results by the end of that weekend. With any
luck this will be fun.

I haven't been reading too many comics this year, but I'll respond just
for the heck of it (I'm at work, it's the day after New Year's, and I'm
bored).

52. It has had its ups and downs, but I've been reading it
consistently, and that's worth something. I'm sure there are better
books out there, but I haven't been reading them.

I'm going to go along with the guy who said Hero Brigade, though for
some reason Shadowpact has been growing on me, especially after last
issue's Ragman spotlight. There's almost no reason that Shadowpact
should work, but Willingham is finally ironing out some of the
unevenness and I'm enjoying it more.

I totally agree! I see that Crisis Aftermath: The Spectre #1-3 and
Tales/Unexpected #1-3 are being collected, so is there a chance that
Dr. 13 will get collected all on it's own? I sure hope so!

Nothing really stands out, I must say. I want to say Conan, but that was
derailed with flashbacks and flashforwards and new writers. Both Batman
titles have been awesome, but only for the last 6 months or so. Cap and
Daredevil have been great. All-Star Superman had too few issues, as did
Nextwave.
