Hmm, from the storylines up to and including X-Cutioner's Song, I came
to the conclusion that both Cable and Stryfe were one and the same, but from
different times. Stryfe would've been younger, with serious abandonment
issues. The fight on the moon would've been the Life Changing Moment (tm),
that started him down the path to good. It's also why he's half bionic,
since one side of him got fried by Havok. It works, but at that point,
other writers already were throwing in their ideas. Shortly after that,
this whole idea gets shot down when the clone angle is thrown in.
So Rob wanted to reveal that Cable was actually the clone. Ironic that
Marvel didn't want to mess around with a new character like that, but they'd
gladly try it on their flagship character.
If Rob's tale is accurate, Bob Harras came up with an origin for Cable
by consulting creators of _other_ books? Would Jim and Whilce actually do
that, or is that a nice way to say that Harras took it mostly upon himself
to create the backstory? I hope that's not common practice at Marvel.
That'd be like killing the Silver Surfer in FF while he's a character in
Defenders. :-)
