Peter,

After reading your comments re: our feelings towards the debate between you
and Todd McFarlane in October, I must concede you had a strong point. The
ball IS in Todd's court. All he has to do is hold his own, and he may just
prove his point. Well, read up on the lovely arguments we're all having on
the net- we all rip on Image here, myself being no exception. Ask Todd if
he noticed just how much like the Spectre Spawn is for me. I wanna know
his reaction to that.

Personally, my main gripe with Image is that they've received far too much
hype and coverage. They simply don't deserve it. I don't feel that the
Knightfall or Doomsday stories deserved the hype they got, and I don't think
that the Green Lantern storyline is going to be anything great either (and I
happen to like GL). I wish we could go back to the days when comics didn't
receive the huge amount of speculation/attention- then the true creators could
get back to doing their job. If an artist or writer really love what they're
doing, then they don't need gimmicks or crossovers or stupid eighteen part
storylines. They can do their job, and do it well. The industry was fine
before all of that came into being, and I'm sure it can survive without it.
After all, it survived thirty-five/forty years up to that point easily.

I know that there are a lot of creators who got fed up with crossovers. You,
Chris Claremont, John Byrne, Frank Miller, George Pe'rez, just to name a few.
I'd add Louise Simonson, only she went from X-Crossover to Super-Crossover.
It's becoming harder and harder for the buyer to support the talent that they
want to support. Hell, by the end of 1995, there should be more Byrne and
Claremont titles out on the market than there ever have been before. I'm
going to have a devil of a time figuring out what to pick up and what to
drop trying to fit their work alone into my monthly batch. BTW, I still
haven't seen a Soulsearchers & Co.- I hope to find a batch in October
at the Motor City Con in Dearborn. My friend who owns a shop upstate (by
the U.P. in Michigan) says it just sits on the shelves regardless because it
is B&W, and nothing B&W sells up there. He thinks the book's great though.

In any case, I realize that you do have your hands full with this debate.
However, I can and will say that if there is any writer in comics who
researches their subject matter, it would be you. After all, how else could
you be such a wise ass?

An earlier posting commented on Louise Simonson's "moving" from
X-crossover to Supercrossover.

A curious thought, that-- 'cos I've thought of the Supertitles
as a single weekly title for a coupla years now. They don't
do it *just* to be gimmicky; it gives them considerably more
room for the characters within the story.

(O' course, the Doomsday/Death o' Supes pacing stunk on ice..)

Cheers

Chris

"After all, how else could you be such a wiseass?"

How else indeed?

I have no intention of attacking SPAWN. That would be, tactically, a very
serious mistake.

<Not that I'm any kind of expert, but any obvious blatant attack would
be a serious tactical error... Let them bring a fight to you... if there's
one to be had.

And never pitch low to a cricketer.>
