Google books has previews of some graphic novels now but they're hard to browse around. I made a site to find and browse the ones with previews: http://comicbrowse.com.
A lot of the big names are missing, presumably because publishers haven't agreed to let google include previews, but IDW, Dynamite and some others are there.
