That's the best I could do to match them up. I know that Flash would beat
Quicksilver but that's the closest match. So with Shulkie and WW. or how
about Wonder man against Wonder woman? How cool would that be? I even
thought of amalgamated names for 'em

present, here's my idea of how it would go (and note, some WILL match
suggestions already made):
Wonder Man vs. Superman - Both are super strong, both can fly, both have
been energy beings... what a matchup!
Thor vs. Steel - The battle of the hammer wielders!
Captain America vs. Zauriel - The living legend of World War II vs. a
legendary being.
Iron Man vs. Green Lantern - The battle of the pinnacle of
technologies...the pinnacle of Earth technology (Iron Man) vs. the pinnacle
of alien technology (Green Lantern.)
Scarlet Witch vs. Wonder Woman - The strongest woman on Earth vs.
probability control. Just how lucky could Wonder Woman POSSIBLY be in that
case?
Firestar vs. Batman - The Dark Knight vs. someone whose powers come out as
light and heat.
Justice vs. Flash - Superhuman speed vs. the ability to move things with
one's mind.
Vision vs. Martian Manhunter - Way too obvious for words.
Stingray vs. Aquaman - Why not Namor? Well, let's see... in DC VS.
MARVEL/MARVEL VS. DC, Orin cheated by dropping a whale on Namor. In this
battle Stingray would get a chance to cheat by shocking Aquaman through his
hook.
Black Knight vs. Orion - Orion may be more fierce, but they're both
warriors. With the Avalon armor and weapons, and Dane's more logical,
scientific line of thought, Orion doesn't stand much of a chance, I think.
Warbird vs. Big Barda - Like Vision vs. Martian Manhunter, if you look at
the two characters, it's just obvious.
Giant-Man vs. Plastic Man - A size-changing scientist vs. a stretching
cutup.
Wasp vs. Huntress - One of Batman's trainees vs. Janet van Dyne.
I can imagine the storyline of the battle going something like this:
Some cosmic being looks at the Morrison JLA and decides to test them, a la
MARVEL VS. DC/DC VS. MARVEL. They become aware of the Avengers and pick the
heroes above to represent the Avengers in a battle to determine which
universe has created the superior heroes. The losers will have their
universe eliminated from the timestream. First hero down, first hero to
lose.
Superman starts off by going after Thor, the strongest member of the
Avengers and a battle royale ensues when Wonder Man zooms in in energy form
to intercept the Man of Steel. Each hero gets a few good licks in, but
Superman wins with a combined heat-vision/superspeed punch attack.
RESULTS: JLA - 1/Avengers - 0
Meanwhile, Thor and Steel face off after each notes how similar their
hammers look. Steel's armor gives him the advantage for a while as Thor
starts off going for a physical contest until Thor calls down bolt after
bolt of lightning on Steel, making him too much of a conductor. Steel dodges
the lightning....right into a punch from Thor that takes him down.
RESULTS: JLA - 1/Avengers - 1
Up above, the Emerald Gladiator faces the Golden Avenger in a contest of
ring vs. armor. Green Lantern starts off very much ahead...and in fact, it
seems like he has an easy victory....until Iron Man uses a tactic last seen
in a dream in Iron Man (vol. 1) #232 and resets the repulsor pods in one
gauntlet to absorb GL's energy while the other remains at normal....in other
words, Tony becomes able to dish out more, while Kyle becomes able to defend
against less. Kyle gets knocked out.
RESULTS: JLA - 1/Avengers - 2
Zauriel faces off against Captain America. Using the tactics he used
against Skylark, Cap uses his energy shield to defend against the angel's
sonic attacks. Cap releases the shield into an energy blast. Zauriel dodges,
and, while the Star-Spangled Avenger readies his shield for another attack
or defense, Zauriel releases another sonic attack of just the right
frequency to knock out the living legend of World War II.
RESULTS: JLA - 2/Avengers - 2
Scarlet Witch takes on Wonder Woman. Simple match as Wanda concentrates,
manipulating the probabilities until the one that Wonder Woman stops
fighting (in whatever manner) comes up.
RESULTS: JLA - 2/Avengers - 3
The Dark Knight and Firestar go into combat. A smoke bomb to confuse
Firestar's senses while he covers her with his flameproof cape, and it's
over.
RESULTS: JLA - 3/Avengers - 3
Justice faces off against Flash. At first hurling various objects in the
area at the Scarlet Speedster, when that doesn't work, Vance tries slowing
Flash down directly with his telekinesis, giving Flash enough time to
vibrate some of the wall into an explosion which causes it to tumble down on
the former Marvel Boy.
RESULTS: JLA - 4/Avengers - 3
Vison and Marvel Manhunter go at it. Between the two of them, some good
heat gets traded, but Vision ends it with an old trick: jamming his hand
into Martian Manhunter's body at its lowest density, then increasing its
density to the maximum point, resulting in a shock to J'onn's system.
RESULTS: JLA - 4/Avengers - 4
In the depths below, Stingray leads Aquaman on a deep sea chase. Orin
tangles Dr. Newell in his hook until the oceangrapher takes out the King of
the Seas by shocking him with one of his built-in weapons.
RESULTS: JLA - 4/Avengers - 5
Orion fires off the first shot at Black Knight, but Dane, having called
on Avalon, absorbs it with the Shield of Night, and returns it with the
Sword of Light...with plenty of interest.
RESULTS: JLA - 4/Avengers - 6.
Warbird and Big Barda square off. Apokolips-trained muscle here proves
superior to the weakened Kree-human hybrid.
RESULTS: JLA - 5/Avengers - 6.
Giant-Man vs. Plastic Man. Size-changing vs. stretching. And
unfortunately, size-changing proves too limited as Plastic Man gets himself
into a virtual Gordian knot, choking the reluctant hero until he blacks out.
RESULTS: JLA - 6/Avengers - 6
Wasp vs. Huntress. This is too evenly matched as Janet Van Dyne
continues searching for a way to use her bio-electric stings on Ms.
Bertinelli and Helena, thanks to her training by Batman, manages NOT to
allow her that opportunity. Unfortunately, Jan, being too small, doesn't
provide much of a target for her to aim at, either. This one's a draw.
FINAL RESULTS: JLA - 6/Avengers - 6/Draws - 1
The cosmic being decides that circumstances have made both teams equal, and
returns both teams to their proper places in time, with no memory of what
happened to them.
YMMV as to the results of all these battles, of course. I just posted how
*I* thought they would all turn out.

Orion can go toe to toe with Superman. He's going to splat Black Knight
like a bug.

Hrmm...hard to call. I'm inclined to say Wasp, as she has more experience
and powers that Huntress can't match. Depends a lot on environment.

I don't think Tony's armor would be able to suck up GL energy. The real
problem would be that Tony has about 5 times GL's brains, and GL doesn't
use his powers as effectively as he might. Depends a lot on which armor
suit Tony has too, though.

I'd say Cap; he's fought people who would paste Zauriel into a smear.

Scarlet Witch isn't gong to last that long. She does several things whih
annoy Wonder Woman, who then reaches her and pounds her flat. Endgame.
SW's hex power simply lacks the stopping power to stop someone on WW's
level.

character development going on with the kind of
smiley-happy-whitebread-perfect heroes DC is so fond of. Now,
I'm not sure whether the Flash still falls under that category, but he
certainly did back when I was still reading the book.

No, he didn't. Are you a troll or illiterate? For the first sixty or so
issues of the current series, Flash was a jerk. For the next forty or so
issues, he was a short attention-span screwup. Since then he's been a
sometimes awkward would-be badass.
You're conception that DC is filled with SHWPHs has no actual bearing on
reality. I would defy you to name one such hero in DC's current stable.

I think the last one I remember - that was actually presented as a serious
character, mind you - was probably the pre-Crisis Superman. Ever since then, DC
has almost gone out of its way to be known as the Nasty Superhero Company ;)

So expressing dislike for a non-Marvel character on the Marvel newsgroup
makes me a troll? It's a digression into off-topic material, sure, but I
don't see OMAR making posts here about how boring Superman stories are.

Could be fun, but unfortunately, as far as I can tell, Superman's a
little out of Simon's league. But who knows, what with Wonder Man's new
ionic form? Still, I have to go with Superman, provided he pulls out all
of his powers. SUPERMAN WINS.

Superman. Thor takes on people twice as powerful as Steel daily. Steel's
not even really a threat to the Odinson. THOR WINS.

I know nothing about Zauriel, save that he's cheesy looking and is
apparently an angel. A freaking angel. Judeo-Christian mythology being
taken as truth is one of the things I hate about DC. Anyway, I think Cap
would win, simply because he usually does. But shouldn't he be fighting
that one guy? You know, the guy who figures everything out? With the
cheesy spikes on his shoulders? What's his name again? CAPTAIN AMERICA

I would say that Tony's going down, but Kyle isn't the brightest bulb

You know, I used to think I knew what Wonder Woman's powers were until I
saw her FLYING AROUND. So admitting a certain ignorance of Wonder
Woman's capabilities, I'd still have to say that she'd win. I don't like
it, but Wanda's powers are iffy lately. WONDER WOMAN WINS.

Well this is strange. I'm not sure about this one, but Batman only loses
to people who _don't_ have powers, for some bizarre reason. BATMAN WINS.

I've read six or seven issues of FLASH, wherein I learned that (like
many DC heroes) the Flash is ridiculously powerful and can do virtually
anything. FLASH WINS.

Indeed. Martian Manhunter is cool, and very powerful, but Vision kicks
in the Solar Gem blast and J'onn gets crispy. VISION WINS.

I don't think you can shock Aquaman through that hook. Sure is
cheesy-looking, though. I'm totally ignorant of Stingray's powers,
though. And I don't really know anything about Aquaman beyond what they
told me on SUPERFRIENDS. But I gotta make a decision, and since
Stingray's a third-stringer. . .AQUAMAN WINS.

Uhh. . .no. Orion is extremely powerful. Thor would have trouble with
him. As for Dane's higher intelligence, Orion wasn't always the
mindless idiot Morrison and Waid portray him as, but that's beside
the point. Black Knight won't just lose, he'll die. ORION WINS.

Not sure what you mean by that. Well, Warbird's powerful, make no
mistake, but she'd have to rely on her maneuverability to avoid Barda's
overwhelming strength and potent Mega-Rod. And Carol simply can't
shell out power like she did as Binary anymore. I'm not sure if she
could go the distance with a tough bruiser like Barda. BIG BARDA WINS.

It's sad, really. He's a comic relief character, but Plastic Man isn't
even funny. I've laughed at Hank more often. Anyway, this fight isn't
worth drawing. GIANT-MAN WINS.

This is tough. I like both of these characters. But I really, really
like Wasp. Besides, I already gave Batman a win. Crossbow vs. Wasp's
