There's a big campaign starting, so get in on it! Buy a copy of Rob
Liefeld's Captain America #1, rip it up (but in large pieces so it can be
identified), and send it to marvel! We're hoping to have thousands sent!

Hmm...good point. Just write to Marvel and tell them that
_Liefield_ is ripping Cap to pieces. They don't make money and
we make our point.

Maybe this is some kind of reverse psychology....or maybe the poster
messed up while he was cutting and pasting. As it stands, you're right,
Chris (gasp!), it doesn't really make much sense to buy a lot of issues of
Captain America #1 and rip it up. The only person who loses would be,
well, the person who bought it.

Ever hear about the sixties when Christian groups would burn Rock and
Roll albums? On some occassions the record stores would stay open late so
that people who were attending such events could come into the store to
buy albums to burn. I'm sure there were some music groups that made
thousands of dollars off of such events. Buying a product is no way to
protest that product. If a product is sold, no matter what the reason,
then the producer will consider it a success. (Then Heroes Reborn will
never end.)
If you want to protest, don't even touch the comic, don't pay a penny
for it, and instead of sending that comic back to Marvel, just send a letter.

This is absurd. Why would I waste my money to rip up a comic that I
don't intend to keep. Here's a suggestion, why don't you buy one for
me and rip it up in my name.

Do what I do -- buy a copy, then attach one of those "CAPTAIN AMERICA #1
screw-up" lists that have been floating around. Or make copies of the list,
and give them to your local comic book stores so they can share it with the
customers. B-)

I got it. I finally figure this out.

This actually a marketing gimmick by Rob Liefeld so we'll buy more copies
of CAPTAIN AMERICA.

Nothing else makes sense.

Well, it's not a *complete* waste of time, because there's a difference
between the publisher and the retailer.

Marvel ain't gonna know it's a dog just yet. The Retailers have already
ordered issues 1-4, and maybe 5. That's money Marvel has in the bank, even
though retailers are taking a bath with all those unpurchased copies.
The "buy one, shred it, dump it" strategy is to reinforce the message
that low orders of 6, 7, etc. are sending - it's junk, and we're not
gonna buy it (anymore).

I suppose it's more effective than *just* falling sales, but I doubt the
difference is very high.

Yeah- buy five for me, 'cuz I liked it even less! :)

Seriously, if you don't like the book, send Marvel a LETTER
complaining about it. Send your own bad drawing of Cap. Send whatever
you like, but don't buy the book just to destroy it. It gives Marvel
your hard earned pesos for basura.

Great idea. Wish to start an Anti-Rorschach Campaign. Everyone
who reads comics should each give me three dollars cash and then
tell me I'm a dork.

I thank you, and my bank account thanks you.

I love this idea. If enough people do it, the comic stores will take
their copies out of the 25 cent bins and my copy, currently worth it's
weight in toilet paper, will be one of the rarest commodities around (for
its novelty value alone, since I'll never have the desire to read it a
second time). You keep thinkin', Butch. That's what you're good at...

Just one problem with this...The sales of the book go through the
roof! Better yet, don't buy it!

Hummm-

Everyone sending in their own bad drawing of Cap - Now THAT is an idea I
really like! And one of us may get a job doing the art for Rob - after
all I draw like a person with a pen between my toes while on an inverted
roller coaster - and I still draw better than the art in Cap #1!

Maybe it will be the new hot style and I can take over the Marvel Universe
and re-make just to stroke myself -

This is a great campaign - I think I will go get my Crayola's and get started!

Personally, if it wasn't a waste of postage I'd mail Marvel my copy
and demand my money back. But, seeing how none of Leifeld's books get
better after the first issue, I think a boycott is in order until the
get a decent writer/artist team on the book. Could someone post a
Marvel e-mail address so anyone wishing to boycott will know who to
inform and how?

Thank you

From what I know of the dynamics of these things, Marvel is much more
likely to take seriously a paper mail letter. How seriously they take
any fan feedback is highly debatable itself, of course.

Not buying books you don't like is the best way to send a message.
