He's flat out denied the rumour on his own message board, so I very much

And he has both the chops and the drive to at the very least match Bagley's
output (hell, anyone up for bi-weekly USM? plus an annual and maybe
biannual giants? Byrne's the guy who can do it -- and keep on schedule, to
boot!).
Ah, well. There are others who can approximate Byrne's mix of on-page and
on-schedule talents -- who also have some experience with Bagley-esque
Spider-work: Ron Frenz, Sal Buscema, Al Milgrom (he's gotta get back in
Marvel's good graces at some point), Pat Oliffe. Basically, anyone out of
that group who isn't handling the new SPIDER-GIRL book could easily slide
over to USM.

Pretty off the subject, but why are there so many artists now who seem
unable to do one monthly book?

Really? I like both of those guys, and they can keep a schedule. Brooks is
always solid, and very Bagley-esque, and Oliffe has improved by leaps and
bounds over the years. I remember hating his scratchy Nomad art, but his
recent stuff is very well done.

Brooks can keep a schedule ? Since when ?
More to the point, I've never seen him draw more than six issues of
anything (never mind six consecutive issues). He's the kind of artist
who is always shifted from one project to another (remember when he
disappeared off Cable & Deadpool before issue 3 ? And when he was the
"new regular" artist for a whooping four issues of New X-Men ?).
Solid artists who can keep a schedule... Hum, Stuart Immonen is free,
now that Nextwave is ending...

What the hell happened that time, when Immonen illustrated the books I
mean. His work was like a pale imitation of himself, all angular,
lacking the style that makes most of us enjoy looking at his work. It
was really strange.
